I don't get why people think Carafino is the "father" of hydrofoiling. So what if he was the first to use carbon.

How is his product so innovative? Like others have said this came from ski boat hydrofoils. I don't see how Carafino made much improvement from that. Others have, but Carifino?

Rush Randle foils use a 4 inch mini tuttle on his aluminum foil, a standard tuttle is 6 inches.
Rush Randle foils failed as it was useless for kitesurfing, it was good for tow in surfing or wakeboarding.
The first successful kitesurfing hydrofoil was the brainchild of Mr. Carafino, therefore, he is the father of kitesurfing hydrofoil.

clear difference in size and fixing the mini version only uses one screw for gods sake

That's a standard Tuttle box! The mini in my image and in the images that mango posted were all much smaller and SINGLE screw fitting.

Standard is 6", it is only 4".

Hawaiis and James are both correct, but the fin head on the Rush Randle board is a one-off design and not in this picture. Also it might be better not to call the Randle fin head a mini tuttle as it doesn't match the mini tuttle box design, but it does look like a mini version of a standard tuttle.

What really matters is - are the board manufacturers who are fitting Tuttle boxes today for hydrofoils (I would guess deep tuttle boxes) having any problems from the boxes not being strong enough? I haven't seen any evidence of that being the case.

In short no, companies with non plate fittings that use a Tuttle fitting are not having huge issues with breakage as claimed by carafino, largely because they don't use a MINI Tuttle box and they know how to construct the board and box interface correctly.

Mango posting a picture of a windsurfing board with a smashed out box with a windsurfing fin IS not proof in any way.

I am sure that between Hawaii sand I there is something being lost in translation as to the true dimensions of the mini version, how deep is the box on the rush foil board?

I will take a pic of the mini box and fin on my speed board and post it for comparison so at least you can see where I am coming from
