The plate was used back in the early days when nobody knew what board might work. I expect the plate mounting will disappear because:
1. It adds unnecessary weight both in carbon and bolts
2. It makes the board less streamlined underneath
3. It is more difficult (expensive) to manufacture
4. It is more difficult to pack when travelling
The Tuttle box seems to work fine and is widely used. Alpine uses something they call a f box which looks to me like a squared Tuttle type of shape that uses one bolt. Is this the same as what Taaroa calls the "Pro Box"? Perhaps a new standard will emerge which would be great.
For comparison can you imagine windsurfing if every manufacturer had their own way of attaching their sail and mast to their board (actually they did in the very early days of windsurfing).
