I have noticed if I put the carbon fiber foil in the sun too long, it can warp, twist and bubble the carbon to cause vibration.I learned it the hard way, now I only leave it in the sun for less than a minute just right before I launch the kite.

Any new startup companies that haven't figured out the best way to make stuff and home made carbon products will suffer from this
Any good quality carbon layups should include post curing to temps well beyond ambient room temperature.

Agree, it is a bad production if it warps or twist when heated.
It should be stressfree if cured and handled correct :thumb:

Having said that, I would unfortunately expect many to suffer from this...

You can never defy physics, if you put your expensive foil on the beach the sunny side is going to be much hotter, good luck.

Maybe aluminum is a better option for the cruisers

Yep for a cruiser who don't wont the hassle of looking after their gear and likes to leave on the beach in the sun aluminium has many benefits.

While seeing the carbon layup may look great and you will be able to justify the high price to the wife and you will impress your non kiting friend with this hitech bit of kit, it is probly more practical to give it a coat of light colored paint to reduce the heat buildup.

That's one way around the problem of HEAT ; another way would
be a can of White spray-paint ! :D

I use white paint on the surface of Any part that has a foam-core ; even
though my MGS epoxy IS an aircraft grade, because foam can melt at
a rather low temp, (black carbon + sunshine = Heat )!

Nomex-honeycomb core or
solid carbon parts, i don't worry about heat with the epoxy i use.

Was this one posted yet? I hadn't heard of them before yet they are a sponsor of the east coast foil champs. Anyone know if their foil was raced?
