How does a Helmet save your neck, when hitting the water ???

The role of the helmet is to slow down your head, not to protect your scull. The best helmet for it is foamy one kickboxers are using.

But maybe you are right, don't know...

One could also claim it could have the opposite effect, that you might get more "juice" into your neck wearing a helmet, so even more whiplash sore

That being said - the risk of getting hit by the board and/or foil is huge and happens all the time, so wear a helmet

A helmet increase the size of your head and bigger size dissipates proportionally more energy when you hit the water with your head.

So, your head slows down sooner, until it reaches its max allowed position.

Imagine you are doing a backward somersaults with high speed on the water.
Without a helmet your head will travel bacward of your spine, risking a brake of your neck.

It happened once again to me at higher speed.
This time it was a cream, the helmet helped a lot.

I use the Shred Ready Super Scrappy. It has a smaller size and weight to help reduce the whiplash. If you wear a helmet you will get more whiplash. I only get minor whiplash now at the beginning of the season or after a really gnarly crash.

Agree, that is also how I see the only negative side of a helmet, that it increases the whiplash effect sometimes

This helmet from the above has got a sun peak for protection which Im not sure is good to have for our sport. Might be ok for lower speed like kayaking etc. The sun peak definitely can add to whiplash.

My idea of a helmet is just a reinforced skin for the board, fins or sharp objects impact, even a coral.

Bucketing might be minimized if is sealed well. Not sure if would be comfy if is tight tho.

For sure long time ago there were no helmets or a technology to make them as today. In 50 years from now we will probably laugh about today's achievements:) And kids will exclusively play games and never climb a tree or go to the woods:(
