Absolutely, flying a big kite at 6 knots to ride a hydrofoil is not easy.

I am still trying to solve the downwind part of the design, it will go upwind fine, but have trouble going down wind.

The hints that helped me with this were:

- lean back against the kite so you are stable on the board
- point as low downwind as you can for max speed but not too low or you slow down
- to reduce your speed go MORE downwind toward the kite
- wear an impact vest and a crash helmet :-)

(my thanks to Zack for the coaching)

Agree with chris.

The trick downwind is to go DEEP - so you dont get too much apparent wind, but max vmg instead.

And you can easily power your kitetrim up a lot (or choose a bigger kite), on the downwind legs, as you ride with the wind, thus decreasing apparent wind - thus you want more pull from the kite

When going upwind, it is also easy to edge and hold a lot of power - the most difficult is halfwind, where I either depower the kite a lot, or fly it up high, in order to avoid getting insane pull because of the apparent wind

Some pics from my first go at it today - it was windy (25-30knots), I was on Moses Silente & 8m Helix.

The foil spins upwind like a missile, I found that most control came from weight transfer from my hips. Looking forward to a bit less wind !!!!

Awesome "TheRussian" !

Havent seen many who rides like that on their very first day (unless it is a beginner foil), and "screams" upwind, as most (including me) will have one or two days (or much more) where we just get up for a really short ride, and often end up downwind

Cool to see
