Kite Foil Gold Cup Mexico

Postby davesails7 » Tue Mar 24, 2015 12:10 am

Some great photos posted today: https://www.facebook.com/michael.petrik ... 293&type=1

I don't think the racing starts until tomorrow.

Lot's of pictures of the new Ozone R1 and the F-one foil-kite and hydrofoil

There are some serious bevels on the rails of some of those boards. Who makes these? Mike's Lab?

Yup, that's the new Mikes Lab. Looks like the top guys are getting some seriously leaned over angles now so the bevels are getting that big so that the rail never touches. And they're pretty much always foiling so the bottom shape doesn't matter to them. The outline has almost totally parallel rails. Again, if the board doesn't touch the water they might as well be straight? Given that I don't/can't foiling gybe I think a little bit of outline shape is nice for turning. Haven't ridden one, jut seen them in the parking lot so I'm probably totally wrong about how they ride.

All the top riders are here and getting ready for the first race today. We have seen presentations of the latest F4 hydrofoil, the new Ozone R1foil kite, the new FOne boards and hydrofoil, and the Taaroa Sword2. Technology is progressing rapidly. We also see the new FOne race kite and a new Flysurfer one too. Both look very fast. Of course all the top racers will be on these foil kites or the foil kites from Ozone or Elf.

The new Mikes lab board pictured above seems to be the choice of some top riders with its heavily beveled edges which allow the rider to edge very aggressivily. But we shall see.

The Spotz2 seems to be a very popular foil but the Taaroa team has some very strong riders. And Maxime will be on the new FONE foil.

I went in the practise race Monday which was fun but it convinced me that my Ozone Edge tube kites just don't cut it anymore. So I am using this as an excuse to not compete rather than admit that my shortage of skill is a factor.

Having fun here in LA Ventana.

More pictures. Chris those guys were already fast on tube kites! Putting them on foils makes it just silly.

Just one year ago Maxime Nocher won the Gold Cup Mexico on the inflatable North Dyno. I think he was first every race last year? Things sure did change quickly! From the pictures, it looks like only 3 or 4 inflatables out of a fleet of 35+

I counted 43 kites in the first race and only 3 of them were inflatable.

Wind was light today and most were riding their biggest kites. I believe the first 3 finishers were on Spotz2 foils. The second race started with stronger wind but ended with much lighter wind. A lot of kiter swam in.

Look like Jullien Kerneur with Airush team is the winner on the first day.
sword 2 is out of the top 3 spots, no pun intended.
