Indeed...if you solve:

- Foldable at least 80cm mast?
- Develop a kite, which has adjustable size?

The power needed to pull a surfboard even downwind is still much more than you need riding comfortable upwind. A racefoil will do, but straps are nice then and you need a long mast.

You need a lot of wind relatively to be able to go downwind on the water's surface ;)

Interesting thought anyway! :thumb:

Hello distance freaks !
Same as you, when i get on the foil, if the conditions are right, I want to go far away, 100km session is pretty standard either at our lake Monteynard, or at the sea, at the lake no time to get pain in the legs since it is not very wide, for other longer one way ride you need your foil to be perfectly set up, most important is center of gravity, it has to be perfecly balanced with a slight front foot pressure, there are 2 ways of working around this, first positions of the straps (stance and position) and fine tunning with the angle of your stabiliser, a 0.5mm shim under one screw can change you foil behavior and remove that pain in your back leg ...

Here are a few tracks around here :

Monteynard :
Image

Leucate to Colioure in strong offshore wind, it was with a boat safety and a group of kiters with diiferent support (TT, Surf and foils) speed of travel was very various, the 50km coastline ended with 160km of spaghetti on the foil ....
Image

103km at beauduc with the wind changing direction during the session ...
Image

Maybe not the longest ever, but one of the most memorable with the crossing to Belle Ile : orange 74km, and red track 37km crossing done on the same afternoon with boat safety, other tracks on the same lucky weekend :) Blue and green tracks are typical not so local foil sessions

It is nice to see your local lake or shore configurations and how you exploit it, keep posting

Nice report Ben. Thanks. It looks you became addicted to the long distances. You have great areas for cruising.
I feel the same but my area is less interesting.
We did Baltic Sea crossing viewtopic.php?f=196&t=2396552 and more often cover 100km in one session.

For instance - out of the blue session yesterday. NWly 17-20kts. Cabrinha Apollo 7m & Moses Comet.
Getting to the beach it stroke me to ride on one tack as long as possible. Started at 1400. Landed in Swinoujscie (85km) three hours later to shake hands with friends from local kite school (they were a bit shocked to see me).

Westbound leg was slow (16kts) and not easy as I had to go upwind as much as possible against waves upto 2m.

Eastbound leg was faster (22kts) and took 2h10m.

I want to do it again within 4 hours (average speed 23kts) but I need NNW winds.

I did this one back in march which turned into a bit of an adventure.
100km
Holbox to Cabo catoche.

10m ozone edge
Winds initially 12 knotsish and favourable forecast
1/3 the way through wind direction shifted and became very marginal same direction as small current.
On the return leg the winds increased a little but I was kiting directly into the sun and hit a large piece of foam rubber (mattress). The foil was undamaged but now at 45 degree angle to board. I limped it back to the beach and forced it back into place. I was able to foil home although my back foot was taking some of the force of the foil pushing through the deck.... Still better than walking.
I made it back 5 minutes before the boat was due to come and look for me...

The board has now made a full recovery many thanks to Edgar in Cancun.

So that's 207km in 7 hours, averaging about 33km/hr (16 knots), correct?

That's a TON of kiting!

Damn Bracuru! Those are some long runs on one tack! My back leg gets tired after just 4 miles. I don't think I've ever passed 50 miles (80km) in one day. This is some motivation to go further.

Wow, the only problem is: what if the wind dies when you are 100km away from where you started ? You take a phone with you?
