foot straps for foil board

Postby Manuel V » Mon Jun 27, 2016 2:34 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm searching for a comfort and light weight straps for a Taaroa Addict board.

I found this two options from NSI:
http://www.northshoreinc.com/store/pc/v ... tegory=108
http://www.northshoreinc.com/store/pc/v ... tegory=108

And this ones from alpine foil:

Any recommendations? :thumb:

Thanks

I have Chinook foot straps on my Taaroa board, they're super comfy and have a lot of room for adjustment, I'd recommend them to anyone.

I bought them from this store: http://greenhatkiteboarding.com/kiteboa ... urf-straps

Around here we used to use the NSI ones on our raceboards. They are very light, very soft and flexible. They also fall apart very quickly.

Any footstrap works but the Dakine Vario (also posted above) is what I use now. The price is for a pair.

Most of us ride with our footstaps loose so we don't need the velcro adjusment feature that is found in many footstraps.

I'd start out with them all the way loose and only tighten them if you feel like you have a hard time keeping your foot position going upwind. Having them loose allows you to eject during a fall without breaking an ankle, and it also allows you to wiggle your front foot around to find different positions that balance the board upwind and downwind...

For example I find myself pushing my foot as far forward as I can going downwind and pointing my toes towards the nose. Going upwind, I rotate my foot so that my toes point towards the downwind rail and stand with a slightly narrower stance so I can put more straight-leg weight over my front foot.

Mr McKenna made a great home made solution that prevent you from foot injuries.
I know from the windsurfing days that elastic foot straps where available. Maybe someone knows a brand with those elastic straps.

Sean McKENNA"s idea looks interesting. The elastic "reserve" seems to be in the white tube.
A more discrete solution could be a single ring at the base of the footstrap V then:
- elastic reserve of the right footstrap in the left footstraap
- elastic reserve of the left footstrap in the right footstraap

Or, using two rectangular rings at the base of the footstrap V : elastic band of one footstrap under its feet.

Too bad, elastic bands or sandows don't like sun.... they crack.

DaKine also offer the same footstrap without velcro for 19USD or 15GBP per piece which is cheaper.
It is called the SLIM.

I;ve been using these one last 3 years:
http://eu.dakine.com/p/windsurf/footstr ... urs-system
Noticed that other foilers too. they are pretty popular among experienced riders.
They are not cheap but are comfortable, asymmetrical :thumb: light weight and last very long.
Unique front and back strap designs
Front Straps: Forward angle fits the shape of the foot
Back Strap: Tapered Outline works like an offset strap on both tacks
Single and double insert compatibility
Includes Twist Control System

Moreover they live after their death
and perform super well and are twice lighter!
This how I use my first set (bought 3 years ago) for winter foiling (boots mode):
