Wow! e-Foil, ultimate low wind...How does it work?

Hey Europ2, thanks for sharing. I'm gonna make one of these things soon. Start a thread on the building section please and tell your friend to go there too. I am getting ready to try but I am unclear on a few points. I'm guessing 2- 3000 watts do get going and 500 to maintain. Do outrunners and inrunners both work underwater? Do I use a prop, thruster or EDF? What gauge wire handles 150 amp bursts? The rest I can do, and will do.

Good selection of motor/prop below ; one motor puts out 22kg thrust for only 1Kw power
and another does 11kg thrust for only 600w. power at 24v. Not bad numbers !!! Didn't ask about price .

YES --- the pitch speed of the prop at 80% power , would be a good question to ask !

I would rather go with a drone for simplicity and free of all the weight.
Besides that people think 500 watts are enough, but they're living in an illusion,
when you need at least 2000 - 4000 watts to get on to the plane according the guy below.
2 years ago I've seen a guy's motorized foil with a 5 Hp light liquid cooled 2 stroke engine,
on Biscayne Bay and he was able to go over 30 knots.
He had problem with overheating when seaweeds or dirt blocked the cooling intake
and starting problems with water leaking into engine compartment.
Same guy is still developing the same concept with electric compact turbo drive,
but it is very expensive and very heavy 60 lbs with the board complete,
to get a descent half an hour ride.
Now he is trying to overcome the dangers of catapulting over, when he hits even the little sea weeds.
So there is nothing new here.

Given that you need 2-4kW for a surfboard, hydrofoils are two to four times more effective (drag wise), so I assume that 0.5 to 1 kW would suffice, won't it?
A 12v 100Ah battery would weight about 13kg and give you a 40-60 min ride.

So if only a few seconds are needed for start, I would choose a smaller/lighter/cheaper 750-1000W motor and over drive it for the first seconds and then go back to 'cruise' mode.
There is more than enough cooling water for the purpose

Yes indeed.
But with 1 - 2 kW is just cruising speed barely enough once above the hump,
while maintaining 15 - 20 mph speed (not Kn) with my 130 lbs (60kg) I found it boring,
especially when the batteries are drained in 10 minutes for saving weights.
That is the reason electric paragliders are not successful and efficient yet, for sales,
like the promising hypes everywhere couple of years ago.
