Hi all,
I have seen this topic: (waist vs seat harness) been discussed here before from the point of view of back pressure and ability to hold the foil while going upwind and I get the difference.
What I would like to ask is if waist vs seat harness makes a difference (makes it harder or easier) to gybe and tack. Since the hook is lower on a seat harness, it maybe easier to get "weightless" during the gybe?
What are your thoughts, does seat harness makes a "big" difference in one's ability to do foiling gybe and tack?
I am currently still learning to gybe and use ride engine v1 waist harness with a rope.
Cheers!
-D.

I had the same concern as you.
Generally the forum guys advised seat for begginers.
Now, looking here
http://hydrofoilprotour.info/equipment/ ... am-gear/ [last left column] we see that all the pro racers (but one) have seat harness.
It is not a 100% proof, like they prefer (now) shorter lines instead of long lines, and they are only in foil kites, but for the matter of jibes and tacks seems relevant.
Anyhow, for me is convincing enough.

I have an Ocean Rodeo Session 1 convertible seat harness with sliding Dynabar hook and it does not inhibit my ability to do transitions on the Foilboard.

I dont think there is much difference, so use what you feel works best for general riding
Using a waist mostly myself as used to it also on waveboards - but occasionally a seat.
If racing a seat is of course the norm - but that is not because of easier transitions but to hold more kite and be able to push hard on upwind legs and for some also being able to hold/adjust the long trim strap with more upper body freedom.
I think the waist gives you a bit more freedom though, in terms of riding toeside and carving - which is what freeriders and waveriders do often, and racers never.
