Agree,
shortest I tried was 78 cm and it was not even half fun, even in flat water already to short for most maneuvers.
Maybe 70 cm can work to learn jibes in super flat conditions, not sure, but is for sure already limited a lot. But 40 cm is not for foiling but just for learning.
I know many dream from foiling in breast deep waters but it won't work IMHO. And in my eyes many firms started to sell those struts as one started and now every firm is afraid that people looking for easy entrance will just start with those firms and stay, so now there is also a short carbon strut, also if it doesn't make any sense at an economical point of view IMHO.

junebug wrote:I bought 15 inch and 24 inch masts from Slingshot to learn. IMHO, the 15 inch mast is basically useless after a couple of hours. It was good to get the feel of how much front foot pressure you need to foil without the risk of a nasty fall, but there is so little margin for error before ventilation, especially if you have swell and/or chop, and so little space between the bottom of the board and surface of the water on turns that it is not actually practical to ride.
If you are committed to getting a short mast, I would definitely go with the 70cm.
agree with this, I also have the 15 and 24 inch masts and the smaller one is only useful for a short while, you can't really foil on it. the 24 inch mast is still pretty fun to ride though. not really sure how advantageous it would be over the standard mast though for shallow water, it still requires a bit of clearance.
