Flysurfer sonic2 vs ozone Chrono v2 ultralight

Postby Flag53 » Thu Feb 23, 2017 8:29 pm

Well I've not been foiling all that long but Im well and truly hooked .
Managed my first heel to toe side carve whilst staying up on the foil and then rode away for 100 yrds toe side the other day and I'm still grinning now.
Anyway back to the point , I'm looking for ultimate light wind fun 4-10 knots and both of the above kites get great reviews .
It's a lot of money to spend on one kite so I don't want to get it wrong.
Which kite would you choose and why and also I'm 86 Kg so is the 15m the right size.

Many thanks

Tested the Chrono UL 11m.
Amazing how stable and easy to handle it is in the lightest breeze. I was impressed.
Would have one if I would not be covered with R1.

Cheers,

thanks Frank :-)

I know there's a lot of debate about Foil Kite sizing and light winds , but what size UL would an 86KG Foiler be best with ( I'd prefer a faster kite that had to be worked a bit rather than an out and out powerhouse)

Cheers

Yeah, seems to be a very personal thing.
I am using a 9m R1V2 as my light wind weapon.
Same weight as you.
It does not really happen to me that anyone is foiling when I can't.
If I would pick a Chrono UL for light winds it would be the 11m.
I prefer to be precise and active flying the kite and riding the foil, instead of being pulled by a massive tractor kite.
My most used kites are both 6m, R1 and Enduro.
Personal preference. Good for me, may be completely different for others.

Cheers,
Frank

Either kite model will work well for you IMO, personally I'd choose based on price and perhaps dealer support. 11m is good size, nice compromise between low end power and agility. Easier to deal with when going thru the learning curve compared to larger sizes.

I'm using a speed5 12m , I'm 97kgs ...
I really struggle to get going in light wind , but it's down to poor technique , but I'm getting there
In light wind i find if I down loop the kite I have enough power to get up, but not always going . And then you also plonk the kite in the water if you mess up
I want to add line extension to the kite , this made a huge difference on my lei , so would like to see the difference

I've tried foiling with an old fs3 15m , was just too big, got hauled off the front of the board with small gusts , if I was your weight I would prolly also choose the 11m
