I disassemble and clean up tef-gel every 2 weeks and rinse after every session if I have time. I go out on lunch breaks for short sessions as often as I can which leaves me little time to do maintenance. That's what weekends is for. I've seen several alu foils with noticeable galvanic corrosion at connection points so clean up is very important for longevity.
That brings up a point: Zeeko, I need Spitfire in carbon!!!!

One thing about the LF setups: they supply the wrong Allen wrench size (slightly smaller), so it's VERY easy to strip the bolts (I got that setup used, so maybe the previous owner used the wrong wrench, who knows). Use a 5mm Allen instead. I also had 2 bolts in the baseplate seize, and there was nothing I could do but drill them out, cut the mast a few cm and re-thread. So I'd advise to at least loosen the bolts every few sessions to keep them moving.

Noob question,

I though Tef Gel is to help lock the scew, but reading this thread it sounds it's there to help protect scew from corrosion?
Does that mean you should apply tef gel to the whole screw?
I used to put some for my pads insert but only for a few threads, not the whole screw...

Yeah, Tef Gel is anti corrosion. Need to cover all the threads. You want it to act as a galvanic barrier so it needs to be between the two dissimilar metals wherever they come in contact. In other words, goop em up pretty good. The stuff is greasy and coats well.

Would plumber's tape serve the same function as Tef Gel? From what I understand, corrosion is caused by salt water coming into contact with the male threads of the screw and the female threads of the insert and creating an electrical current between the two that degrades both. Would plumbers tape be a sufficient insulating barrier to prevent contact and, thus, the resulting corrosion?

Ok thanks, I think I got confused with the blue loctite which is different than tef gel.

when i got zeeko some came "pre gel", certainly didnt have that much as on video.

I put some on screw and spread it around with a wire brush and use excess on other screw adding more gel when needed...
So far I have cleaned foil screws only twice. it's been sitting assembled for 4 weeks, was waiting for next session to do a full clean, zeeko recommends 2 weeks I think lol.
