Cabrinha double agent vs LF Rocket/Happy

Postby dorpadon » Wed May 31, 2017 7:46 pm

I am about to purchase my first hydrofoil set.
I got a pretty good deal on a new cabrinha double agent set (2017), the thing is i couldnt find many reviews on the forum (dont trust the magazines).. my main concern is to outgrow it too fast and that it would be too slow (from reading the reviews here).
My second option is to buy the LF rocket(new) or the happy (used) about 500-600 usd more then the cabrinha.. is there a big diffrence between the sets? does it worth the price diffrence?

Thanks :D

I never tried the LF's. The Cab is working perfect for my learning.
Would like to hear a good comparison as well.

I'd go the Cab just cos I think the board would be fun on its own.

If speed is your thing, I don't think either will cut it. The Cab is slow and power hungry, but is stable and otherwise well behaved. I had a couple of excellent sessions playing in head-high waves with one...

When you say power hungry do you mean it wont be efficent in light wind?

I own LF and ridden cab once. I definately prefered cab over LF. both have pros and cons but I prefer how cab rides over LF. Both are "beginner" foils that you will sell 1-2years later. LF might have VERY SLIGHT better lowend but its minimal. Dont worry about it.

I've not ridden it in very light wind, but I've always found I needed more power in the kite to get speed or drive it upwind. Splitting hairs maybe, cos it's still better than a TT in light wind :D and I'm a clydesdale too.

As I said though, it's stable and easy to ride for general fooling about and the DA board looks fun without the foil.

If you wants speed and upwind, something else will be better.

After over a decade of riding directionals I learned foiling on the Cabrinha and have to say I am glad it was so slow compared to higher performance foils. The crashes in the beginning are scary. No need to add speed. After a year I now have switched to a Levitaz Element and it is better in every respect, including a more stable ride. So I guess it is possible to learn on the Levitaz but I cannot imagine dealing w the Levitaz's speed as a beginner.

Yeah, sometimes it's a good thing. When you catch a wave, you don't go rocketing off away from it :D

You are getting double agent on sale, 2016 or 2017?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DCCgTiTdFQ
Depending how you look at it, longer mast and other improvements may be worth couple hundred $.
(The same thing is true for LF which second generation is noticeably improved over the first one).
