One advantage of the "nose" at least for home builders is the MAXIMUM surface area between F wing and fuse.
f wing fuse.JPG
But compare to the "Noseless" fuse to see not that much difference.
It seems to make sense that the less surface area under the water the better, faster, ala most newer designs, bravo!
But this will be hard for most DIYers to do.

Once again, if you insist on nose, make it bulbous; it should be faster than pointed one.

alpine foil answer

The Rostre is extremely important for the guidance of the flow on the wings it allows to improve the flow and to recover the lift located near the fuselage. Without rostrum we are in a turbulent zone the root of the wing is perturbed non-laminar, the lift is lost on about 2 cm of width on both sides of the fuselage

For one of these reasons, gliders, airliners And fighter aircraft are equipped.

On the other hand the absence of rostrum brings a gain of weight, reduces the bulk, simplifies the fixing with the wings, it is probably the real reason why certain mark is suppressed.

To date we have sold foils with rostrum in 41 countries and only Franky who works for KETOS without the " Show on his profile seems to have been touched.

The rostrum complexifies production, but ALpinefoil likes to have the best technology on its products even if it costs a little. Our products are without compromise

the example of the fuselage AlpineFoil 5.0 Access is the perfect example:
why to make a fuselage in CNC 5 Axes machined in a block of aluminum of 1.5 kg rather than to use all technos at low cost that l Aluminum foils are currently known in the market.

Simply for the perfect respect of the flow and the best ratio of weight resistance and assembly with different elements.

^only relevant for bolt-on wings though, those forces don't apply when the fuselage is entirely positioned behind the trailing edge like modern foils.

alpine foil answer...
Just marketing BlaBla, sorry, no problems with alpine, but I think what they really wanted to say is:
"We had always these pointy noses as it looks so fast, but now as it is seen to be just a bad idea, we are just afraid of telling our clients that it was a bad idea.... so we keep it ... "

Just to give you another example from the brand I am riding:
Levitaz had this curved backwing called "bionic" which should have the form of curved elbow joint of a birds wing ... but the bird does not have this elbow as it makes it flying better in static mode, but because it want's to be able to sit down afterwards and fold down its wings. Because it looks silly sitting in your nest on your eggs with your wings unfolded

And also the airliner and fighter aircraft does not have a nose because it flies better, but because they need a tailplane / stabiliser and a counterbalance for its weight, as they don't have a strut and a surfboard above ...

Bionic and to copy details from other constructions is a great idea, but just when their solution have something to do with your problem, the rest is marketing BlaBla.

But to save Alpine:
I think he refers to those rustic last train hopper constructions as Cabrinha, Naish, LF are using. In these cases a elongated nose for sure would improve flow of current, but this threat is talking about up to date 2017 foils.

Agree with Horst here :thumb:

There is one structural advantage though, I remember from my very first Zeeko - I once ran into the low sandbank, trying to "fly" over it, and the pointy fuselage nose pierced into it, taking the load (slightly gradually), instead of having the wing tear up the fuselage and screw inserts.

This only goes if you go straight and not edged though, so wont help in all situations - but has definitely taken the forces for me once or twice :naughty:

As for statement one, easy to disprove as all the fastest foils now DO NOT have a nose, and as for loosing lift 2 cm each side, prove it :nono:

And I think your second sentence was incorrect as absence of nose REDUCES bulk ,and weight because of, and less surface area!

One should be very careful sing the word "only" in phrase 3!

And the last one is ment to mean what? jail? For what? STRANGE!

If this is really the official AlpineFoil answer on this matter then it is enough for me to not buy any AlpineFoil .... what a bunch of C#ap
