wakeboarding 10 years (retired)
some wakesurf (retired)
skateboard (on and off long board)
Kiting into my 5th year......first 2 years tube kites and twin tips, last 2 years foil kites and flysurfer flyrace raceboard, 5 days Foil kite and Alpine Foil.
I purchased an Alpine foil titanium with 1m carbon (high modulus mast) and Xlp wing, everything in high gloss. with the vr6 board.
I dont have anything to compare it too as it is my first foil after lengthy research
Day 1 - first 15 -20min from hell, going right had some success riding board, going left did multiple sow cows backrolls what ever......i knew i needed front foot pressure, but didnt apply enough. Once i had that figured out i was doing mini foil runs on day one going right.
....an experienced foiler who tested it thought it was absolutely amazing how stable and locked in it was! (ok good i thought), even after watching him for over a year on his own set up, he looked much smoother on the alpine foil, more locked in .
I am now on day 5 and foiling going right non stop, even in race position pushing it with hips forward and kite at 9 or 10. I started jumping on day 4 and sofar 27 feet and change on woo. I use coming left to foil down wind some times on foil sometimes board. Going downwind to my right no problem on foil.
while i cant speak to the components individually, i can speak to the Alpine foil unit as a whole, it has made learning to foil a piece of cake....easy (except for the horrendous first 20 min.)
One word about the board Vr 6.........touch downs smooth as butter.....even riding the board on the water is a pure pleasure and smooth as can be!
since day 1 i have been self sufficient after 1 hour where i could go upwind and down on foil or board and make it back to the beach.
the quality of the components, fit and finish are absolutely perfect!!! everything fits with absolute precision! ( i almost hung it on the wall just to look at it)
I can highly recommend the alpine foil line up to anyone wanting to learn, the fuselage and xlp wing make it easy ( at least this was my experience)
Damien and the gang at Alpine Foil are incredibly passionate about their foils, and Damien has his heart and soul into it, trying to make his foils without compromises.
Lets get this straight, you guys are worried about a 1 inch blunt protrusion that is associated with 4 knife sharp carbon blades that stick out over a foot each side on one end and almost as far on the other. These attached to a 1 meter ultra stiff carbon mast also with sharp edges. Really? Take up crocheting...far safer...oh wait, those needles could take an eye out.
