So how does the fun factor compare in small waves: takuma vs spitfire vs higer aspect carbon wave wing?

Way more fun. You can pretty much ride the small wave without the kite being a big factor. What you cannot tell from any videos is the feeling you get from the cutback. It looks like nothing on the video (no spray), but you get the same feeling of acceleration as a normal cutback on a proper wave.

here is a short impression with the Takuma with the short mast and BX 5'4. This is my teaching setup, and not normally what I would use to ride waves, and also I am practicing front side riding on my weak side.

I kited using my GONG SUP foil for the first time yesterday. I was very surprised how fun these SUP foils are to kite with. My wife was watching me, and after my session, she said she wants to foil.

Before that day, she had zero interest. Watching me on my high performance foil was a turn off to her.

BTW, she already windfoils.

I've been using my surf foil (uni-foil) with the kite for a few sessions now and I gotta say I wish I started foiling with a big blade from the beginning.

I started with a 600cm2 front wing and the learning curve is quite steep , I honestly feel that I would have progressed A LOT faster with a slower surf foil .... It gives you time to think

The only only difference is I use a 930mm mast , the 650mm with a kite is frustrating

Thanks for your input gunnar. You are one of the only people I've read reports with experience in waves on both spitfire/canard and large wing sup foil. I can understand how sup foil wins out. The spitfire wave riding looks fun but it's more riding amongst waves than surfing the wave. It is too fast .. Kinda like twin tipping in surf.

What are your thoughts on a go foil type board built in canard mode? Would the design characteristics of canard be useful: faster turning off rear foot, tendency to drop down less suddenly on wing surface breach, less wing size for same among of lift? Or can you see reasons a canard would be a worse fir design wise?

@faklord
That's for that info. I'll work further on that.

Hey Gunnar,
are you using the standard Takuma Foil here? Standard back wing, too? And the 60 cm mast or a bit longer? Looks pretty agile. That's good. I hope I will intensely use it for three weeks in August.
Cheers

H Ulx,

It's the standard Takuma v100. Standard Back wing and 60cm mast. I would normally use a 90cm mast.

Nice video Gunnar, can you explain the 90 cm mast? It must not be a Takuma mast.

It's an Axis Mast.
