I had really good conditions lately and improved my best speeds !
Should I change the unit used by the club from kmh to kts then?
35kts strapless is MAD, MAD, MAD madness for me.
Do you think that 50kts is possible on a foil?

So far my best one is 32.0kts in straps and think that before breaking my personal record I would break my bones first ;)

I don't know for the rest of the world but in France for any speed related to the sea or ocean, the unit we use is knots so that's what I'm used to.

Pretty sure the 50kts barrier on a hydrofoil will be hit some day ! Nico Parlier is getting faster and faster. He did 44.44kts maxspeed and 41.33kts on 250m in April.

My personnal objective is 40kts ! I'm hoping foil kites will help me go faster, my current best speeds are on inflatables.

All you need is flat water, a good gust, crank the bar and off you go ! I'm sure you can improve !

What wind speed do you get your top speeds in?

15-20 it winds seem to be my best. After that it's too choppy at my spots.

15-25 kts but it's offshore so it's flaaaaaaaat ! :P

The kites I use in these conditions are my Flite Gen5 : 8, 10 and 12m².

I'm not confortable enough with them to use my foil kites in offshore wind but it will come :)

Nice that makes sense!

Interested to hear how the foil kites go for you. From my experience they are clearly WAY faster in under 15 it's of wind, but the advantage tapers off after that. You still get better angles on the foil kite in more wind, but I don't know that you get much more top speed.

The same in Poland.

However in this topic "kmh" is used as it's easier to achieve a limit of 50 for a recreational foiler than 30kts.
Thanks to it we might have more club members ;) and I hope it would motivate the newbies for a speed progress.

BTW - I'm a marine pilot - it's against my nature to use kmh on the water.

I have done some direct comparisons in the kite buggy with one of my buddies regarding ozone edge lei and chrono and r1 race foils. All other aspects were equal. same wheels same beach same wind same weight ish.

in the 15-25 knot range riding similar size chrono V1 /edge/r1 The chrono and the r1 have maybe 2-3 knph more top speed on a broach reach speed run. We where reaching speeds around 80kph.
In higher winds 30+ knots on 6m r1, 5m chronos V 6m reo the R1, Chrono has the edge by a couple of kph in the 80-90 kph speeds. The reo is not a high aspect lie however. When the wind is real gusty the race kites cant shed gusts as easily so the leis get closer and closer to foil performance. I'd really like to see an 5m edge V 5mR1 in 40 knots of gusty wind. I think the edge will have the edge in those conditions.

Yesterday we had 30 knt. wind and I was out on my Fone foil with a 6m Bandit.
I had my phone with an app. called SportsTracker.
It measured some runs into the 70-80 kmh.
The highest 96kmh...
I was going full throttle, ended up snaping my board like a toothpick, however I know I could not been going that fast, so why the high numbers?
Which App. is the best for smartphone to measure speed?
Thanks!

Cheers

Endomondo shows bollocks from time to time too.

example: 125kmh & 67kts.

however it is simple to identify:

So far don't know any app with the same accuracy like proper dedicated gps watches.
