How much would you happily pay for a foil board

Postby Tone » Fri Jul 14, 2017 8:10 pm

If you were to buy a board, what would you consider a fair price?

For a raceboard it would be more but for a freeride board it would be less...

What's your number?

Tony

Most paddle-surf shortboards are in the $600-800 range. Adding in the materials to mount a foil and not have it snap in two on the second session, I'd put a 20-30% upcharge on that.

I have a full-carbon race board I paid $900 for and feel like it was an amazing deal...

Agree with Mossy, would also say that something in the 800-1100 usd or 700-950 euro is a fair price for a good freeride foilboard, and add a bit in price for the best raceboards.

And lower prices for heavier discount boards.

500 usd for a fancy one, I've paid more before, but now a piece of wood will suffice, my piece of wood is hard to find in the swell thou :), I rather spend more on the foil

"happily" and "pay" are incompatible words in my dictionary :D :D :D

Fair price varies widely depending on the board :naughty:

Bunch of kite surfboards appear on sale for $350. Foilboards should be simpler in shaping, since they mostly fly but oh well, there's none for $350 and I was happy to bargain price down to $540 plus tax.
I love my 42" Dwarfcraft

I'm of two minds.
For some decent foam, a few inserts, resin and cloth (totals about $150-250), does it have a really nice paint job?
On the other hand, it's worth it if it does the job. And one that does not make you happy is not worth it, at any price.

A simple plank style paipo or skim style board should be about 500-600. Could be a bit more if custom shape, graphics, convertible, etc.

BTW off the shelf shortboards for 800 or so is way bogus. You can easily get awesome custom boards for that.
You pay a lot extra for the plug and play consumer experience.
Sometimes it's worth it. Other times not...
