Groundhog day.

Postby plummet » Sun Aug 06, 2017 6:11 am

Due to work, weather and other commitments i'm only getting to foil about once a month at the moment.

When I start my session I find that I have regressed back a step or 2 since my last session. I then spend the rest of the session progressing back to where I finished the last time.
A month goes by and on repeat groundhog dat regressing and progressing.

So who else is stuck in ground hog day foiling?

Yes I get out every three months or so and progress is super slow. I am definitely regressing.

Yes, no, and maybe.

Yes if I have a layoff I'm a kook, but that only lasts 10 minutes or so. Then I'm back cruising and having fun, so that would be a no.

Maybe is that I am getting better and better at foiling and can do it and be solid in all conditions. I still can't tack. Flying foot switches are unreliable. 360's are sometimes good and sometimes not so good.

I have to say part of the joy of foiling is that it shares a similar wonder to paragliding, which is my other sport. In both cases when you're not doing it you can't quite remember what it feels like to do it, and you're not sure that you can actually do it. Then when you get out you're blown away by this amazing thing that you can do.

I just had a foil 2 days ago after a 7 week layoff. Straight line foiling felt surprisingly good with only 1 or 2 foil breaches/crashes. Gybes (on water) were pretty patchy but getting better towards the end of the session. Maybe 30% success rate. I have plateaued a bit now with my learning and need to push the transitions a bit harder.
