Today I was out in very gusty and variable winds. 19-30 knots according to windfinder, and it felt that way. I was totally over rigged on my Mono 7. about 80% of the time. After an hour I rigged the 4.5 RPM. Kite flies nice and predictable on 24m lines, 45cm bar.
Granted, it was only short session, but I have big difficulty getting up. Only in gusts could I get up. I tried loops. Didn't work.
My conclusion is that there's too much gap to my 7m kite.
I think I need a Mono 5 ( relatively powerful, just like the other Monos) or a relatively weaker 6m kite like a Reo.
Sounds right to me yes, the gap is too big Tom...
For waveboards, the 5 to 7 m2 is a gap many uses, but even this is a tad big so many get the 6 m2 too.
So from 4.5 to a powerful 7 m2 is a no go....
You are right, you need a powerful 5 like the Mono or a depower 6.
Or a Cab drifter 5.5
In the small sizes, sizing means A LOT !
Difficult to explain why, but when you have ridden these you just know...
For the big kites it does not matter that much, really, huge steps between is just fine
Today we were out on waveboards with 5 m2 kites, insane (good and big) waves, all good.
Then the wind dropped, and we rigged 6 m2 - when I turned on the first waves I thought "Bloody hell this kite is slow" ha haa - it is really fast, but compared to the 5 one gets used to quickly, it was a big dull bag
