Definitely, I almost entirely fly the kite "up" when carving and jibing and riding waves - downlooping is IMO no good for that many things, unless as a trick in itself or in marginal winds, or when going max speed for a looooong way downwind carving back and fourth, as you will lose a LOT of ground
Others downloop often, personal preferences - but flying the kite up works great for carving, the difficult part is the timing as you will make many mistakes before you get it right.
It has to be flown up at the right time and coordinated, and the difficult part is to avoid turning too wide.
When you can it is easy peasy, when you cant it seems impossible
Practice practice practice and you will get there
