Yesterday morning the wind here on Flag beach was very low, under 5knts, so low large foil kites of the race type would not stay overhead and had to kept on the move, there is a group of 4 foil board race guys here testing out flysurfer race kites and other foil kites that have no markings at all but look around 19mtr, the guys had a hard time getting out in the cross on breeze as the kite lines were going slack as each little wave would push them a little back. They had to swim hard as the kite would not pull them out, at times thier kites would fold and drop into the water, so this made really good watching.
they had to get far out to get going as they had to aim straight downwind and then pump thier boards up an down to get up on thier wings, but once up it was amazing how fast they went, it just shocked me to see the speed these guys were going, they of course had to turn at full speed to keep the flow going , with one guy throwing in aeriel rotations to turn around and land at speed with a kite loop, they were very skilled and professional.
The only problem one guy had is when he crashed, he had to keep the kite moving to stop it folding which took him away from his board, this made a few others stand up on the beach as it looked like he would not get back to his board, he did, and went from zero to mega fast instantly.
It will be good to see how these guys preform next week in the 35 knts of wind that are forecast.
Thier race boards, masts and wings are not Moses but look like Levitaz as I recognise the high quality polished metal fixings, the masts have been matted down removing any logos.
There is a massive skill gap between these guys and the recreational user, this you don't appreciate by watching videos, you need to see it for real as only then
can you understand the difference.

Yes. The conditions were really light and inconsistent yesterday. I was glad that I decided to SUPfoil at Flag instead. Today should be better and I will be training on my new Comet. Hopefully the Flysurfer test team will still be here to line up with.

See you at the beach.

Curious to hear your opinion on the 2018 Comet (ML inspired?) foil Gunnar, compared to the 2017 levitaz Bionic. Also have a Comet incoming soon to see wich is faster, if only we could get some hints of spring....

Yes me to, had always an eye on moses as I like its lightness of construction. But even more important:

Anybody of the lucky owners willing to try the new 590 wing as mono? Should be best possible moses monowing so far with its longest cord line. As for me actually a brand change does only make sense if there is at least one good mono wing. But not interested in the Supfoils as mono, even have given back the big Cruizer as just to big for me.

I have been riding it for a couple of weeks now. So here is what I think so far.

1) It was not race ready when I got it. It was loud as hell and needed sanding and trailing edge needed cleaning. After that it was perfect. I did not need to filler it.

2) It is nice an stable on the downwind. It feels very similar to the ML. You don't have to worry about it and can push it quite hard. I still need to test it in flat water to see how fast I can push it. It feels very neutral at speed, meaning it does not favor one foot or the other in regards to pressure.

3) Upwind seems to be just as good as any other competitive Race foil (ML, Banga, Enata)

4) Compared to the Bionic, it is a far easier foil to control. Tacks are easier.

I will probably use this foil for most of the races. The problem is, that it looks likle Moses will not be allowed to register it for Formula Kite events.

The 590 won't work well as a Mono. The centre chord is actually not much more than the 550 Wing. Or do you mean the 633 Surf Wing? That would make more sense.

Gunnar,
I believe both 590 and 550 are exactly 132mm wings (slightly more than 120mm of 558).

Thanks grigorib and Gunnar,

thought I have read that cord on the new 590 would be a bit longer, but could be wrong. Experience from about half a dozen tested wings is that, 15 cm cord is necessary for a relaxed mono. But hope to find time to build own wings in the next future, then I will be free to choose system. And no, surf wings with 63 cm and more span are just to wide to be nice for mono freestyle for me, prefer around 50 cm span.

Even if not a racer also my impression is that the long fuse of bionic is just to soft to be stable at very high speeds. As far as seen also Levitaz for their team turned back to better thick and short fuse and bigger stabis, even if more draggy than bionic for sure, these shape as most build it, should be thanks to stiffness better to control at high speed. Just for very light wind and lowest drag I think bionic is still interesting (for all non pro like me anyway) why I think I will keep it for first.

If possible, could you please elaborate on this if you know more?

I thought the release was just too late for the registration last year, and that it would be included for this season.
