Nobile split NHP converted to foil travel board

Postby grtlakes » Wed Nov 01, 2017 4:54 am

So how feasible is 4 holes drilled? Epoxy filled? Tapped and insert fitted? 2017 model. Worth the risk? I could buy the foil board split but I have the NHP handy. I am not too worried about the warranty but curious what the board builders think. I would reinforce the attachment with a plate of some kind.
LF happy foil will be the foil used for now.

So you want to use the split twintip also for a foil board? I’ve had the same idea and plan on trying something out in a couple months. I was thinking on a carbon plate plus a good top mat to help with flotation. If you do that way keep us updated.

I don't see the need for a plate. I've converted 2 super light skimboards to foil compatible. I over-drilled the hole size and filed it with epoxy and let it cure. I then drilled and inserted t-nuts. I put a pad over it. It works awesome. Super light, though I learned quickly it's not great at touch downs. I have the NHP and the split foil. I'm just returning form using the split foil on a business trip. Packs great but it's friggin heavy. I did get an epic day at Crissy and under the G-gate bridge which made it worth it. I have the NHP but never use cause I'm loving foiling, but I'm liking this idea - thank you. I wouldn't want the straps though. Btw, the straps on the split foil suck!

Funny. I was considering the split foil board for work travel. You have given me reason to question that decision.
I can't see myself doing any modifications over the winter. However, if you experiment I would love to hear your experience with the NHP. How would you rate the strength of the split foil connection compared to the TT connection.
Thanks

Yes, it's heavy. My bag weighted 56 pounds. It was super compact. I was NOT charged on any flights but I'm leaning towards a bigger bag that would fit my lift foil and a lighter board. I love the split foil. It's super comfortable to ride strapless on but it is really heavy. Good luck.

Where can I get the inserts to try this? I'm thinking of mocking up a wood board that will last long enough so I know where to mount my foil. If I added a CF plate, it would help with the flex and maybe give me the ability to move my foil mount. Thanks

I used these and they worked well. https://www.amazon.com/Hillman-4149-Sta ... B00IAVIZ4O I also use these for straps. I've used these for pretty serious applications in ski mountaineering. I added a second set of holes to the bottom of my Split Foil so I could mount my liquid force mast and stringy foil for travel. It worked but I was nervous using it. I may drill these out and install T-nuts but it would damage the board. https://quiverkiller.com
