How fast are the fast ones ?

Postby Peter_Frank » Wed Nov 01, 2017 9:44 pm

Curious - we were talking about it here locally, but did not know...

Today one guy, James, did some really fast runs in 18-20 knots or so, reaching 41,7 knots (77.3 km/h) in 2 seconds, and 38.4 knots (71.1 km/h) in 10 seconds, I find it amazing but have no idea how other fast riders are doing ?

Myself I ride only half the speed when fast, ha haa - not into speed but love the challenge and to follow whats possible :thumb:

Speedboards and windsurfers ride in a lot more wind when fast, riding WITH the wind, not as efficient and a totally different ballgame, inefficient

How fast are the fast ones, kitehydrofoiling ?

That's fast! Was he on a race wing or some kind of speed wing?

I've only hit about 32 knots. Talking to a top racer only a year ago, he had only hit 35 knots, but maybe everyone's faster now?

Your friend is super fast Peter!!!!

One of my friends with a 15m Flysurfer sonic race has done 40.01 knots which is mental in 12-14 knots of wind. He was on a Mikes Lab and he is very talented.

Nico Parlier has recorded over 44 knots.

Personally my fastest is about 36 knots but that was only for a second or two. I find it really quite hard to maintain anything over about 30 for very long. During races, the top guys are doing 19-22 knots up wind and 25-27 downwind and the mid 30's on the reach to the line when being pushed by another rider. It's the angle they ride at these speeds which is the impressive bit!

One of the top ranked racers in the world who I share my homespot with told me he did 41kts peak on his Mike's Lab.

My personnal best is 38kts peak and 35kts during 10s. Wind was 15-25kts offshore with big gusts, I was flying my Ocean Rodeo Flite 10m² and riding my Spotz (RIP :() Tuna strapless.

I hope to improve that as I finally decided to put straps on :)

Its hard to understand how can they go so fast, ive never tried a full race setup yet, meaning: race wing+race foil with short lines+flat water , but with the race wings and a 15m v2UL on long lines my max speed is around 26knots ( in around 12knots of wind) which is really far away from 40+ !!!

Peaks for me (very short) at what feels crazy fast on my Moses 558 wing on Vorace mast are around 21 knots. This is with Flysurfer speed 5's which I tend to ride on the large side. Seems hard to believe guys going at double.

Look up some vids by SparD - there is a vid of him doing some nutty speed, strapless on his Tuna (RIP).

I can be out on the water on a free ride wing and thinking that I must be breaking some record only to find that I was going 20 knots. It can feel really fast if flying over chop and swells.

I'm still a noob, but soon an intermediate after 50+hrs. I regularly do 16-19 knots peak on my Moses Fluente w 550 /330 wing. And I'm using a North Mono, which I feel is not a slippery fast through the air kite.

This is exactly how I feel too, going faster than ANYTHING else in chop and waves, to find it is only 20 knots ha haa
