1 or 1,6 mm frontlines?

Postby kas911 » Tue Nov 21, 2017 2:57 pm

Hi

I'm building a lightwind bar with thin lines for freeriding on a hdrofoil with my Gong 12 m2. What do you think lenghtwise? Im planning on 28-29 meters

And would you trust 1 mm frontlines SK99 with a breaking strenght of 280 kg. Or would you go 1,6 with 420 kg? 1,6 is just to normal i think, so kinda wanna go with the 1 mm. for both front and back

Hi there..

My foiling mate and I use the SK99 1mm for foiling. 30-31m and a 15m2 Storm Voyager for myself.
Also made a SK 99 1 mm 27-28 m for my 12 and 9 m Airush Ultra. No problems so far. We are not racers, so not much stress on kites and lines anyway.

I have the 1.3mm SK99 and think it's more than enough. I'd play with the 1mm if you have the money to spend.

I suggest 33m with a 12m2 kite.
Yes 1mm is enough for power lines and can go even thinner for steering, lower lines.
Just be smart and rig SIDE wind and even if VERY skilled and proud to self launch and land, sure can be kinder to both kite and line health with help!!

1 mm indeed :thumb:

28-29 m lines is perfect, if you use it "always" with the 12 m2, also when powered just fine, and works for low wind days too.

For a few marginal wind days you might benefit with a tad over 30 m yes, but often not that much more gain with these light and fast turning LEI kites, when you go even longer - but if chasing the utmost marginal with your current kite you could use 4 m extensions on 28 m for normal winds, eventhough then you have wasted some weight/drag for the knots/loops

Or choose 30 m for this lightwind bar, and thats it, for all days - it works for me and very rare I go with short lines (26-27 m) with a 12 m2 LEI light kite.

Have a look at the new DC161 and DC201 from lyros!
