I just meant like what a previous poster “mopman” did to mount his foil.
Looks like nut inserts embedded in plastic/resin.
If the board is heavy glassed, a few more layers of patches and inserts mounted in strong resin/milled fiber columns that go all the way from bottom skin to deck should work.
Where boards often snap is at the front edge of the foil plate so that is where the bottom needs to be strongest. If through bolting, big washers are a good idea.
Thanks for the pictures, I think i do remember seeing that little 4’10” before.

Yes! For my through hull DIY I used a plastic cutting board above and below, to make plates that will spread the force. This has worked fine on my kite foilboard for a year or more now. But in trying this with a SUP foil, there's a lot more forces involved. On a head high wave it broke the plastic and pulled the bolt, small washer, and a chunk of plastic right through the board. So ... next iteration, will use large washers 2" or more, or better yet, an aluminum plate on top.

That race board is going to be a monster to learn on.
I'd convert the slingshot board.

hi guys, does anyone tried to use foil with old big three-fins raceboards such as temavento or mikeslab? I've got new race foil but dont have a proper foilboard to test it (

Thanks for the responses. My conclusion is not to mess around with my existing board, but possibly have a custom board made incorporating foil inserts. This would almost certainly be stronger/lighter than retrofitting.

Flyboy, the raceboard will by far be the best for learning, and will also be an awesome ultimate marginal wind board later, maybe impossible to beat even for advanced riders.

Your first attempts will always be pathetic - it is very very normal for everyone, no matter what - dont be discouraged by that.

I would learn to ride on that one - it has tracks now and is way easier to learn on than the smaller ones.

For an allround board for ALL conditions, the Slingshot board looks just perfect in every way, and would also be easy to learn on and can ride in quite low winds too :thumb:

But as it has not got tracks, but the raceboard has - learn on that one for now :D

The red one will be the most difficult - fine and small and fun WHEN you have learned, but will only be after a long time you will enjoy that one, short and tiny nose and no scoop, not good till you can foil consistently

8) PF

PS: To Thomas1kite, for racing these boards are too wide, and will catch when edged max and really powered....
But for learning and marginal wind, top !

If your small surfboard is a "magic board", adding some weight for the conversion is going to alter it quite a bit. Doesn't mean it will become bad, but it might with an extra 600g. On the other hand, its compact shape would make it a good base for foiling. I'd risk it! Unlike Peter, I think being compact with low volume is better, even at early stages, than a bulky raceboard, specially if you're aiming for strapless. Provided you're not chasing extreme light winds, ...

I'm using the Zeeko Slash 5'4 convertible, and although it weighs significantly more than the surfboards I'm using or used in the past, I still like it a lot for wave riding, and it's getting a lot of use, to the point that I keep the fins on, and would typically mount my Zeeko foil on my other foiling deck, a Double Agent, so as to be able to swap quickly. Unless I'm travelling...
My point being, weight isn't necessarily an issue. But foiling on your beloved surfboard can introduce bigger risks of damage to it.

I did this with a surfboard, and it seems to be holding up fine. The 4 deep nuts-in-plastic-plug is also half the weight of two fin boxes.
