It might save the complete foil if it was to break off from the board, but sailing it back would be interesting,
Yep... Every foil manufacturer has had their issues and a couple of foils were taken out by grounding with the single bolt being pulled out. Adding leash was security. There was a thread here sometime back showing a huge crack in the al mast... I moved to two bolts on my own alpine carbon foils and I believe it is the standard today.
Grounding sucks and all manufacturers have had their weak points - Alpine one bolt heads (earlier designs), Lyft fuselages (earlier designs), Slingshot Rails (current designs) to name a few.

Dont know about Axis, but a few guys have Alpine Foil gear where i kite, ive tested them, good foils but way more expensive then Moses for example, and i dont see any benefit on the extra price.
In my estimation Moses is the price / value leader. The alpine stuff is like jewelry it is so nicely made. But all of it gets beat to $hit in short order like others in the end. A friend just got an Enata and I was surprised the price wasn't wildly over the top.
I am also a major believer in the 4 bolt flange approach. Every tuttle type method will eventually fail with a 1 meter lever on the end of it. If course racing only....fine....messing around boosting and such its pretty hard on them.

Unfortunately, as shown by Slingshot, there is such as thing as cheap rails. The custom board manufacturers can do a pretty good job of strengthening the tuttle box interface from both the top and bottom decks. Nothing worse than tramping around in the shallows trying to avoid stingrays looking for a foil.

Yes, custom guys who know, box the rails to the top deck. The other approach is no rails like the native Moses boards but on aftermarket you need enough foot strap adjustments to nail balance.

The difference ultimately comes down to material costs and mass production vs individual production. Its not 2x the price to purchase a ultra high modulus carbon fiber custom built foil.

Has anyone had a chance to ride the 2018 Axis foils yet?

Yeah, I've got the Axis 2018 freeride wing and its really sweet. Easy, playful and quick enough when pushed. Performs all manoeuvres smoothly and has a lower stall speed than the lift nf2. I've not used my sword2 since I got the axis a couple of months ago. I also had the pleasure to use the surf 72 *if I recall correctly* behind a boat. Very nice indeed. Shame we don't get waves here in Holbox.
