Andersson Foils "Cyber Fish" Canard Wave Foil.

Postby mrravethewave » Thu May 03, 2018 4:22 am

This is the Cyber Fish Canard Wave foil by Andersson Foils. The Cyber Fish is super fun and maneuverable in waves/swells. The small front wing loosens up the foil and makes it an extremely efficient carver. The Canard configuration with the small wing up front also allows for better "slope control" on waves. It basically has more pitch control on a sloping wave surface than a conventional directional foil. Another advantage with the canard, having lift in both wings, gives you tremendous light wind capability. The lift to drag ratio is much better than a conventional foil. Not only is it fun to ride waves on this foil but just carving up swells in the middle of the ocean ala Kai Lenny is unbelievable.

Possibilities are endless.

How do the wing sizes compare to zeeko spitfire, regular and XLW?

Nice to see also others trying the canard concept of zeekos spitfire.

But,

- a symmetrical strut profile with rounded ends? Would expect it to be a drag monster.
- welded connections? Have you already any good long term experiences with repeated stress failure? I think all firms who tried this stopped welding due to that problem, and used screws iinstead, not just for travel aspects.

Nice to see another canard but it looks way too “homemade”.

Note that Zeeko has MANY years of designing, building, testing KBHFs and by some one very skilled in all those areas!
Even for him took awhile to get a canard dialed in!
If this flies like it looks.... good luck!
Interesting all those getting on the wagon.....
High tech name, super low tech build and most probably design, but maybe she flies, question is how well?

Not sure about the wave performance but are you saying that this foil with symmetrical mast , round leading/trailing edge, square fuselage and rough welding's has a much better lift to drag ratio than the slick "conventional" race foils?

Yeah this foil construction was meant as a low budget quiver foil. It sells for $450 so naturally it won't look like a $2000 foil. It flies great though. It has been worked on for about 2 years now. I have been riding welded foils for the last 5 years and have never broke one. You just have to have a really good quality weld. The idea with the rounded edge mast is that it is a little slower in the waves which is nice. You don't want to out run the waves. Also if you get hit by the foil in the waves its more forgiving. This mast works great in the waves. Another advantage with the one piece weld is the weight. This foil weighs in at about 9 lbs.

Hi Lars (Andersson?),

to not show the critics from the wrong side:

I think many as me here are very happy with every new small foil brand. And the basic idea of building custom made alu foils for a low price, sounds like a pretty good point. On the other hand there are a few many statements or info that just sound strange and or exaggerated, which is not necessary to build a new brand with an already good concept. And also the posts here are a bit hard to order, if it is just ment as commercials by Andersson himself or a real customer with many differen't Andersson foils talking about waves foil kiting, but in the video is just going straight ...

So I think it is better to just take the time and build a nice small brand by good results, as to give you other examples:

And you will get the corrosponding positive feedback.

Hope Andersson foils will be succesful, that way.

When an alum mast is welded to an alum fuse, the fuse will loose up to 50% of its strength.

So if you hit the ground your toast, it will bend in a split second and no more foil, cant be fixed.

Unless alum is heat treated (a very costly and time consuming process) I would stay away from it.

But it looks nice.
