Slingshot Hoverglide is aluminum setup. Not sure of wings, pretty certain they're not carbon
pretty sure theyre made of cement
Someone in my FB time line weighed just the wing -- 2,156 grams
2kg just for the wing...!
Yeah, the Slingshot foil felt about as heavy as the donut tire for my car when I hefted it. Definitely not a foil with which I'd associate the word, "light."

Thanks for the numbers! Have you check the VMG difference? I'm thinking maybe Onda 633 is a good option for amateur racers

Why ???
Sorry to say, but IMHO it would almost be the worst possible for racing
Thick, low aspect, swept - couldnt be worse...
Perfect for many other things, but not that.
All other wings from Moses are way better for racing or amateur racing (easy and faster and better vmg) IMO.

If you want a fast freeride foil, have a look to our ZEEKO carbon hydrofoil or for a cheaper price the Bullet.
I competed last year with the bullet foil, and depends on the front wing used, you can reach easily more than 30knots of speed.
Bullet can be ridden with: Carver wing, race wing, freeride wing and speed wing.
If you look at max speed here are my personnal records (it could be improved by a better rider, and max speed was made with inflatable kites):
Carver wing: 27knots (50km/h or 31mph)
Race Wing: 33knots (61km/h or 38mph)
Freeride wing: 33knots (61km/h or 38mph)
Speed wing: 38.5knots (71km/h or 44mph)
what is fun with the bullet is you can ride super fast with a speed wing or make huge turns with a carver wing
ride easy

New to the sport, but years foiling behind the boat. Can you shim the foils like we do typically on air chair or Skyskis? Meaning, add more angle to the wings causing them to apply more lift sooner. We always tuned the old cast aluminum foils with a dime in the correct location making them fly easier. Looking for my first foil board now. Kids are off to college so losing my boat crew and looking at kiting as my intro to retirement. Thanks - Jerry- Boise

Hej Jerry,
You have the right idea. Have you learned to kitesurf? If not learn that first with TT and surfboard.
In your area there must be a lot of used Slingshot Foils.
I'm in Sweden and bought a Moses because of good quality/ price, modular setup to allow various wings, and a strong regional sales network ( irony: a dealer in Hamburg and Stockholm - both 500km away...)
Most foils allow you to trim the rear stabiliser, some both wings. Slingshot allows only rear trim.
But these days it really isn't needed as most manufacturers have well trimmed out of the box.
You need a board to go with your foil setup. It's really important to get good board, many make the mistake of thinking it's not so important. Again, Slingshot has good selection.
Try to find a local dealership.

agree on a reach the Moses 633 and even more so the 683 aren't so slow compared to the Moses 637 race set and other race foils. The biggest difference is the acceleration upwind angles and speed the 637 can achieve. On a race course the Onda would get killed. Cruising around with friends the Onda wings can hang in.

if you're new to the sport i'd honestly just forget about foiling for a while until you have at least a season or two riding a regular board. kiteboarding is such a technical sport that you dont really want to have to think about more than one thing at a time, imo.
as to your question, its not something you really need to worry about, lifting off is not difficult. once you get moving you dont need the extra lift as it will just cause more instability as you go faster
