Good question!
although it doesn't take much to stop you cold...even a stick.
I hit a stingray last week in OBX, little guy probably no more than 8" wing span.... sent me flying... of course I saw him at the very last moment and was not able to react... it was like slow motion from there forward...lol

BTW for those of you who may not know, the sound is full of rays, I couldn't believe my eyes!
Yes I have hit them many times in Hatteras. You stop dead. I have rarely seen them first due to the murky water. Wondered what it does to them.
Major emotional scar if they survive :)

What worried me a bit more is a turtle I saw in the sound. A foot long buddy and I don't want them to be hurt.

If you really hit logs that often, why are you interested in a higher speed?
going slow sucks.

I'd prefer aluminum or g10 to carbon

Slingshot Hoverglide is aluminum setup. Not sure of wings, pretty certain they're not carbon

A friend's standard size slingshot hoverglide kitefoiling wing I rode last year had little carbon in it, or at least did not seem to have much fiber of any kind near one wingtip, which broke (replaced on warranty). Not sure about the replacement, it's in one piece still I believe.
Another friend's slingshot large size surf wing he is using for kiting obviously has carbon as a main ingredient, it's visible and the weight is reasonable for a 1500cm+ wing.

Check out the Axis Aluminium freeride foil.

Alu fuse and strut, carbon front wing with g10 stabiliser.

Super stable at both low and high speeds. I did a 34km there and 37km back trip the other day. 1 hour there, 1hour 15 back, At just over 30km/h average speed is not too shabby. I also wasn't trying to break any speed records.

I believe the front wing was also available in g10

Someone in my FB time line weighed just the wing -- 2,156 grams :o 2kg just for the wing...!

I have been using north mono kites on my Moses Hf for over a year, recently got an Ozone Hyperlink 9. I only have 3 sessions, but can tell the upwind angles and reach speeds are faster. Easily reaching 38km hr, where I had to push to get there with monos.
Not surprising, just don't forget a grunty lei is going to effect top speed.
