Truck rack for boards and foils

Postby Laughingman » Mon May 28, 2018 4:24 pm

Hi all

I am thinking of ways to transport 2 foils and boards assembled. I have a Toyota Tacoma with a trifold hardtop tonneau cover. Most of the gear fits inside the box under the cover but the foils are too big assembled.
1st option - Thinking of mounting them to the top upside down with the foils in the air. I am concerned about the wind force on them and bugs/debris.
2nd option - Mount them on their sides that way they would be mostly protected by the cab.

Has anyone tried either way or have another idea?

I have an f150 with same setup and I can put two under the cover, boards to the outside walls with masts facing inward (wings off) easily (1m masts) Moses allows two screws to remove fuse and both wings so that is fast as they come off as a unit. The wings are frustratingly too wide to fit under the cover. I put carpet on the bed to protect the boards edges. I had thought about putting them on top of the hard cover with some sort of mount but then security is an issue, also getting into the bed.

Check these out. They're bed bars that work with tonneau covers. They would provide a solid mount for your foilboards.

Very robust looking but way overkill....and the issue with tri-fold is that there is no space to fold up the cover.

WOW those are super cool! I may get this just for everything else I do! But cwood is right for foil boards it is overkill... but as far as folding the tri fold I bet the cross bars pop out easily to allow for it.

For my bikes I have a 1/4" steel plate 4" wide by 36" long which I affixed fork locks to and the plate velco's to the tri fold. Yes Velco is amazing if used carefully...

So after trying to buy the above racks I soon realized it was going to cost more than I was willing to spend. So I designed my own and with help from kpterrie built this instead.
