When things go bad!

Following on from a thread a month or so back I have just bought myself these miniature rocket flares, they are the same ones I have used before only this time they are available in a handy little compact trigger and tube arrangement which is half the size of my mobile phone and fits neatly under my wetsuit attached by a lanyard around my neck, its water proof but I rince it after a session.
The three cartridges fire off with a shotgun bang, fly up too 150 ft and burn bright red at 10,000 candela,

Over 40 years I have carried this style of flare with me when out at sea on a windsurfer and then kite board,
Over this period I have used them on 6 occasions, 2 for my rescue and 4 times for others who have been in need of rescue,
on all occasions the loud bang emitted when firing off one of the flares has been enough to make my wife look out to sea to see if it is me setting off a flare, as I allways send up 3 flares around 30 seconds apart this has worked very well,
for safety my wife allways carries a set of high powered binoculars and her phone with her.
The chances of getting into trouble on a foil board are higher than with any other watersport I have done, so these little life savers will be with me when I hit the water.
They work well, frightens the crap out of you when you operate the trigger.

Cheers for posting mate, that is great.

One thing tho, where to buy it? The only one in AUS I could find is this one, but that's not the same:

they are the same ones I used over the previous years, same maker, same cartridges.
but here is the dealer I use, will post anywhere, costing around £43 +post

https://www.lifejackets.co.uk/brand/32/pains-wessex

primarily for use on yachts, dinghies, Personal Water Craft, canoes and sailboards, but have many applications as a general-purpose distress signal for aviation, hill-walking, climbing, skiing and other outdoor pursuits. Each cartridge projects its payload to a height of over 46 metres, burns for over 5.5 seconds, visible for at least 5 miles in daylight increasing to 10 miles at night, depending on weather conditions.

they do have a shelf life of around 3 years, after which you can have fun setting them off on bonfire night or new years eve, (but not on the coast or in the hills)
