Never tried those kites, not sure if we can find them in europe, but looking at the design i expect the windrange to be quite small no? What would be in upper end of a 18m ?
I have a 18m Pulsion light in germany!
2 days ago I was out with my 134x40 Radical5 from Flysurfer and 80kg. The wind was about 15 to 18 knots with 20+ gusts. I have to pull adjuster 1/3 so highend seams to be in the beginning 20s knots...

I bought a used Sonic 2, 13m. 1000€. Had it out for 3rd hour of flying today in 7 knots. No white caps and current 1knot with wind.
Worked great. Guys on 16m no strut storm voyagers struggling.
I'm new to foil kites, 76kg. Moses 590 wing.
It turns really slow, but generates great power once moving through wind.
In that wind I'm just cruising around enjoying the weather.

Im still at 8m tube in 12knts phase, but nevertheless my searching for ultimate marginal to decent wind kite is finaly over :)

http://kiteforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=2400060&p=1021106
I tried the FRS 12m in light wind back-to-back with pulsion and sonic 2. Light but not marginal. Same appreciated behaviour of a medium ratio kite in term of plug-and-play and stability in light. Compared to pulsion :
-pro : better watertightess while waiting on water and less reaction time to initiate a turn or a loop which is a good point for ex-LEI riders or surfers.
- cons : should be lighter as it needs 1-2 more knots to hang in the air. Frs has less power for same size so certainly a better high end. Maybe just a question of speed system setting . Loop is faaaar less powerfull so power is missing to waterstart where it is still easy even without loop on Pulsion.

So , i liked it much, a very good light wind kite certainly good surf kite, very predictable, but not the ultimate marginal wind kite.

Ive a friend with a FRS 12m, and my R1V2 11m on 15m lines starts earlier and has more power then the FRS 12m on 21m lines. The FRS its a easy kite, but it doesnt excel anywhere.

Doesn't it excel in ease of use?

Its freeride kite so dont see point to compare it to R1V2 - of course hi aspect race kite has more power per size than mid AR freeride kite. FRS isnt super strong per size even soul is stronger per size. But i was body dragging to shore with FRS 9 while R1V2 19m2 guy swim. FRS excell in turning speed and bar feel. I mean - real turning kite with power not helicoptering.
FRS 9 is quite quicker than SOUL 8. For me it hangs in any wind i can ride. Its definitely more stable on zenith in light wind than Sonic 2. I freeride - surf and carve with moses onda and need quick turning, depower, stability in LW for starting, LW water relaunch. And much after then a need raw power. Race kite power spike without possibility to depower other than on edge while riding for me is only detrimental. But for each they own - race guy/crankers needs different gear. I just buy kite which is not very known and want share this discovery by honest review from wave LEI kite guy point of view. For me this is my Marginal wind kite till i find better.

No way you can fairly compare power of race vs freeride kite. FRS looks really good for surf, except lighter weight would always be nicer for drift.

Yea, but it just sound like you mean - "its bad kite". And FOR FREERIDE it is exact opposite, its best from what i flown. But hey I dont measure VMG, i measure fun :)
I must admit that i didnt flown Hyperlink because I was concentrate to fly SOUL as everybody rave about it. FRS for me is much better than Soul. I even think that Soul is primary TT kite not a foil kite. I flied kites for 20 years and im not seeking for easy kite. I have own many foil kites in past. Imo to make good wave/carving kite that follows you in the turn a react on slacked lines is as hard as make good race kite. Race foil kites cannot be depowered/slowed down while sending redirecting - other than back stall - which cannot be used for power dosing. So they are not pratical for foil freeride. You never see Greg Dexler on race foil kite. Not everybody wants crank upwind 60 km/h.

I am buying one (an ultralight Kitech FRS 12 m2), to see if I can move my marginal low end - we'll have to see if it does or dont :thumb:
