I think they're "training wheels" so they don't capsize the monohull while they figure out how to foil.

I believe they are some sort of hydraulic assist. They will have some kind of deck meat but it goes into either a battery or a hydraulic system, because I don't think there was anyway for human power alone to lift those hydrofoils fast enough. the assist may be in deck tho and maybe they are just pontoons?

it's a combination of the tipping of a cat, with the danger of a hydrofoil, the speed of a single hull and the purity of jetski.

The entire thing is an abomination made to satisfy 3 separate and impossible to meet criteria: Faster than the ac72, cheap enough for a budget team to race and a monohull. So yeah. The traditionalists won't be happy and it won't be as fast as a cat and it sure as hell won't be cheap.

What edt said. An abomination. The Italians insisted it be a monohull, everyone insists it must foil, and nobody knows how to actually do it. I will not even believe it if I see it!

As a Kiwi I'm happy.
We have a history of "punching above our weight" as a country and given that the Yanks buy our technology off us to compete with us it's nice that we get a break from them setting the rules again.

As for speed... sure, a monohull will have more air and water drag but I love that we are going to see new challenges and new solutions at a price that smaller countries can still afford. Great that they can foil too! And if the new design is safer, Great !

I´m more interested in how the boat works, what steps they are taking to learn and build it.

“Spars in a v” - the ones rising from near deck in a shallow v, appear to be deck spreaders. Give a wide shroud base to support mast. No inboard shrouds visible, just diamond stays. Not too unusual. Not hydraulics I think. They could be hollow and serve a dual purpose, anchoring shrouds and holding hydraulics that work the foils but I would expect foils to operate via a hydraulic pump and gears inboard instead. putting all that swing weight outboard wouldn’t be the smartest.
