Do you need to rinse kites?

Postby neilhapgood » Thu Jul 26, 2018 9:11 pm

Slightly boring question, just wondering if it's important to rinse a kite in fresh water after a swim?

I have never bothered before, just dried it out, however I have always had old kites, just got a new 12 which is getting wet a lot in light winds and keen to prolong its life?

Thanks

I’ve been kiting since 2001 and have never rinsed a kite but I do let them dry completely before packing them up.

same here , let them dry than fold it ( fan helps a lot )
unless you dropped it in the mud or something ( spray Simple Green and rinse after one minute )

I suck at flying kites and tend to get them in the salt water more often than I acknowledge on this forum.

When that happens, I usually spray them with a hose before hanging them over the shower bar to dry.

Only in salt water when I drop them :) next I cover them in sand when packing them up, so fold them into their bag and leave them for the next session.

Sand is round and salt water won’t grow mould. I avoid fresh water incl rain like the plague.

No. Deflate Roll up, pack. Leave in back of Ute.
Unpack pump up, use. Start again.
UV will kill it way before anything else.
