I'm talking mostly to freeriders here, as the racers will unanimously say I should use two sizes bigger. I am not using race kites, or a race hydrofoil.
What do you do when you're out on a 'relaxed' cruise, and the wind drops a little more than you would like. As a result, you have less power from the kite (you weren't overpowered to start with), and you are now trying to head back downwind as quickly as possible before the wind drops too much.
The problem is that because you are somewhat lacking power, it is more difficult to run deep downwind.
What I find is that if I keep the kite low, it is a lot more affected by gusts and will occasionally stall. With the kite high, it doesn't work as well.
Should I keep the kite reasonably low and sheet out to prevent stalling but run as deep as possible, or should I actually be sheeting in hard and try to keep tension by not running as deep?
