Hopefully someone can learn something from my accident yesterday. I am riding Moses 590/325 wings, and during a long session I crashed and the stabilizer (I think) slashed through my bootie (rubber part) and into the sole of my foot. Ended up with a 5 cm gash, about 0.5cm deep. The wing cut the bootie and my foot like a box knife, it didn't even hurt.
So, unless you are racing and looking for the ultimate in performance (and understand the risks), please sand your trailing edges (and possibly sharp wing tips) so this doesn't happen to you. I can't even imagine what could have been if I was not wearing booties. No need to show the actual wound, but take a look at the bootie.

Yeah, you actually want to square it off. Sharp = noisy and not fast.
Nice 90 degree angle is the goal.

yep, that looks frightening.
I have seen the video before and sanded my edges a little less sharp, and then finish with a few full length strokes at 90 deg to the edge to flatten off the edge.
however as I have been wearing a shortie every day on holiday I now have two identical slash wounds across both shins done on different days, it only hurt a few days later when I repeated the same underwater kick against the rear wing, blood everywhere, but lake water is better than salt water for faster healing.
must remember to sand them flatter before my next (salt water) holiday.

When the guy sands down making sure he creates a flat area doesn't he create two shape edges instead of one?

yea but angle of this two edges is much bigger i.e. 90 degree vs 10 degree, so much less cutting potential

You can sand it no problem, ive a friend learning with a onda and i sanded his wings to something that will still hurt alot if it hits you but is less likely to cut, and the foil still works great.

I still dont understand why most of the foils have sharp edges and why people buy them and injur themselves while there are safe options.
