I bet boosting on foil is fun as. Not my style, that’s all. My foil is 8lbs of heft too. Might slap it on a plank with straps some day, but my stoke is pretty high doing what I’m doing. No hate on it tho, people are going big! I have just a few more key moves to dial in first.

it's just fact.. there are virtually no young recreational foilers.. mostly due to cost, kiting is expensive enough as it is
i borrowed a liquid force ally foil a few weeks ago for a spin, too heavy
as for short twintips, sure no good if you live in puss wind land, but i rate them highly for fun factor
kite foiling just is what it is
crazy upwind angles, speed in chop, light wind ability, fun learning experience
super expensive, pita to travel with, useless in shallow water spots/ weed spots, f useless on decent waves, looks second rate when it comes to anything freestyle/wave with a kite
i like super small foil boards (sub 80cm)and kites(4m) just the sheer minimisation is cool in todays kiting world of over complication.. too much kit.
foils.. the saviour of the kite industry that already ate itself and sold out. saturation will bite em in the ass very soon.

Something sure has bit you in the ass! Think it’s gone septic.
Try some joy.
One life.

Toby has never foiled ever what!!!!!? Toby you are missing out big time if you haven’t....boosting on foil compared to twintip is like driving a 1995 Ford pickup vs driving a BMW F80 M3
5 times the fun..
remember, I am passed the point of just jumping, I am into tricks.
Yes, the jumping on a foil in light winds are incredible. But too limited for tricks.
I love my tricks with my small TT and big kite. I don't want a small kite with a bigger board.
Plus I hate jibing...kills the fun for me.
And that jibing thing is what also keeps away other people.
But as always...it is great to have many options in the sport...and seeing guys being stoked again to get on the water who kited for longer time and got bored, makes me happy too.
The best sport ever.

You are abit wrong here, you can keep using your normal (huge) kite with the foil, you will be able to hold more power with it (after the 1 year learning process) and most of the "airstyle" tricks you can do. Board also doesnt need to be big, and will probably be ligher then a TT, but with the foil together will be heavier ofc.

There I fixed it for you.
We've two under-20 riders locally here, both dads are "distributers". The next youngest is sponsored by Naish, everyone else is 40 plus.
You missed "riding swells when you can't surf".
PITA to travel with? Are you trying to skateboard on it?

PITA to travel is not the strongest argument, imho.
I used to have nobile setup that would fit foil, TT, 2 kites and a harness in regular-sized bag, under 50lb.
Most foils I owned would fit in to a golf bag deceiver just fine..
Toby,
jibing w/o foot switch is a pretty low hanging fruit, you can dial it in a few hours.
you can hold overpowered big kite just as well with foil, after some practice (although handling gusts is a bit trickier, imho).
You get more hang time with foil for given conditions (since you can boost with more speed and get spring effect) so more time for airstyle tricks...
It's still a new field but Adam Withington and a few others seem to be doing fun stuff in the oldskool department.

The travel bit is just another red herring. All kite gear would be a bitch to travel with! Don't take it with you, if it bothers you that much. Is that any reason to not do it at all? Better not SUP!!! All my travel for kiting is done with a vehicle and the foil takes the least space of all my boards. Surfboards are way more hassle.
Whats funny is the same guys bitching about how it would be a hassle to travel with are the same guys bitching about price and likely almost never fork out for airfare to kite!
Ive never once in 15 years of kiting flown with gear.
FYI, here is a thread about a guy who traveled 8000k by motorcycle with a foil.

Lets get back to the sharks.... that was a solid argument!

I see what the guys do...some cool stuff, but also quiet some dangling.
Why should I start something new while I still have so many tricks to do? Currently 1400+.
Once I am down to 0 (never I guess) I can look for something new...until then I am happy with my 18 and TT
