Fone mirage 1000 vs Moses 633

Postby neilhapgood » Fri Nov 30, 2018 5:05 pm

Hi all,

as the subject would suggest I am wondering if people think there would be much difference between these two wings, I know the 633 has received some great feedback but I might be able to get a used fone 1000 so wondering if people think it would be as good? Been foiling for a couple of years but can't gybe yet and always in chop or rolling swell.

thanks!

at 1000cm^2 Mirage is rather as large as 683s (25% smaller than 633) but should have very nice lowend at that size.
Looks a bit of complex and less reliable wing connection for my taste but for cheap aluminum setup it might be quite alright set.

The entire F-one mechanical solution is a nightmare. 2 guys in Brazil had them, one a friend. Problems, problems. Hammers, vaseline, broken parts...
Me? A couple of screws on my Moses and go...

I have to disagree...IMO its brilliant!
I use two sets of Fone foil, without any problems.
Instead of "vaseline and hammers" I suggest a bit of sand paper on the insert part of the wing and fuselage. Then it's only one screw to deal with...

As an additional info. Fone have a complete new plug and play system for 2019.

cheers

The moment I saw a video of LP assembly/disassembly I rushed to cancel my order for it. Same weird system.

Same for me, have been kite foiling since 2005 and owned a bunch of hydrofoils from different brands using the traditional 3 or 4 screw system. The first versions of the F-One one screw assembly had a few quirks but the 2018/2019 versions work seamlessly. Foil is assembled or disassembled in under 10 seconds, like going from separate strut to one pump inflation :)

Kind confirms the 2018 sucks... sandpaper on a new foil, and then they changed it...

I kinda expected a little more from someone like you Tom...

So let me try again.
I suggested "a little sand paper" on the INSERT part of the foil. (see photo attached)
(only to fine finish the little imperfection on the surface of the cone (not the foil wing) which in some case's!!! can make the deassembly a little difficult)
Then it works perfectly!

Fone have probably realized, that this is to much to ask since people start using "vaseline & hammer" on a delicate equipment and then go public with the genius idea, so now they have changed it to titanium or aluminium.

Sorry, didn't mean to be harsh.
But you gotta admit it's a bit concerning that you have to sand it to make it fit, and that they redesigned it. So consumers should be aware...

Advantage of Moses is the screws can be bought off the shelf from several suppliers. Very simple and low tech system, with backwards compatibility. Personally, I don't disassemble my foil to put it in my van, only for travelling...
