Doesn't seem that way to me. The used chrono v2s are going for about the same price as the used race kites right now on the used market. The market for freeride foil kites is pretty narrow too.

An ultra light version makes sense to me. For 95% of freeride foil kite riders, they are buying for low wind performance.

The Chrono v2 18m is $2500 and the R1 v2 19m is $3500, kite only. I'm betting the Chrono v2 light version will be $2850 for the 18m. Crazy expensive for just a kite (for me)! I thought paying $1500 was too much for a kite but that's what I paid for my new R1 v1 17m. I'd love to get an R1 v2 19m but I'll probably have to wait until the v3 comes out and they're blowing out the old stock at 50% off. This time around I missed out on the 19m v1's. Only care about them for light wind free riding.

Was very fortunate enough to recently use the Ozone Chrono V2 15m UL in very light onshore winds. Unfortunately I did not have a wind reading at the time, however definitely felt much lighter than anything else I have foiled in. I would guess that if holding a hand held windmeter it would be saying 6-7kts maybe even 5... Winds did pick up to about 9-10kts by end of session. At 70kg/27m lines and using a Spots2 foil I was blown away by the light wind performance. Had to jump start the kite while in hot launch mode and to my surprise it launched smooth enough with quick inflation. Brake line was used too while launching to ensure kite was pressured. My initial concern was that it would not be enough to foil and or having the kite falling out the sky in a heavy lull. Had nothing but a solid session where the kite floated amayzingly overhead, even when I botched a tack or pausing for a break. Until you actually stop and pause do you realize how light the winds were. No wing tip tucks were experienced...The power was very smooth and not grunty which I thought would be the case. All in all a very smooth, powerful and super stable light wind kite. I had my first experience of kiting while paddleboarders looking for flat calm conditions were out... lol.

It's a beautiful thing ripping past a SUPer at 20+ knots :cool2:
