how much space to launch 15m Pansh A15

Postby opie » Wed Mar 22, 2017 4:12 pm

Hi,

I am new to foil kites, ordering a 15m A15. I have 40 meters space max at my launch. If I order 30 meter lines, will I have enough space?

2nd question: What is a mixer? Is it just another name for the bridle?

Thanks

You need enough room for lines + bridle + a few feet - You will be launching directly downwind with the foil kite and it will generally not pull you down wind since it is not fully inflated until high above the ground. The bridle on the A15 is pretty long, maybe 3 meters. The mixer is lines on the bridle between the front and back bridle sets that mix the inputs. (These lines have pulleys on them)

Bridles are pretty long, so I'd recommend to start with shorter line set first. Bar feel is quite vague and long lines make it even more so. Be very careful around trees or brush. These kites love to get tangled with them at the slightest touch.

Sand down the kite a foot from the waters edge and launch from there if you can. Maybe from the water is better still if shallow enough?

Our launch at Sherman Island is actually an area cleared of brush away from the water. We launch then walk with the kite in the air down a path to get to the water. I may try a different spot for my first time to get accustomed to a foil kite with a little more room for error, but Sherman has the most consistent winds, so I will probably end up there.

Hey, opie. I just went through the same process with my new Pansh Aurora 15 (first foil kite). I'd suggest taking your A15 out to a field or other open area, away from other people, just to get used to launching and landing it. You'll have more confidence when you get ready to ride with it at Sherman, and you'll learn first-hand the answer to your original question.

A few other thoughts.....The A15 is probably similar to the Aurora 15 in that it launches better with some pre-inflation. Also, I found it more comfortable to launch my Aurora at a 45 degree angle to the wind, rather than hot-launching it. That degree of caution won't be necessary in light winds, but it made me more comfortable working through my first several solo launches. :thumb:

There is a rock pile to avoid and it can be to shallow next to the islands but that leaves plenty of room for foiling. I believe on a good day you could go 50 miles upwind to the pacific.
