Flysurfer sonic race (v3) due out too.
So no....it will never end
The flysurfer sonic race is NOT the sonic3!!!
The "race" is a special version for racing!!!
So the sonic is not for racing? Of course the race is the sonic v3. They will say it's not so they can second hand the tech to the named kite that will be sonic v3. While claiming better performance with one, the other is now the compromise.

I can see it now "the all new sonic v3....we have taken the technology and design traits straight from the race but with "even better handling" to make it more durable and friendlier to the first time foil flyer"
This is how the chrono went. A very simple design time line that can go from chrono v1 to v2 then v3 (chrono v2 ultralight) then v4 (r1 v1) then v5 (r1v2) then v6 (r1v3)
But no one wants to be on v6 of a kite in less than 3 years. So they make out it's a totally different kite line and worth it. Wait 2 more years and we will be on v12. But we won't! It'll look like an r1 but be called something else plus v1.

It's possible that the timing of the competition circuit leading up to Buenos Aires 2018 and Tokyo 2020 is affecting the way they're releasing kites. I heard someone say once that the cutoff for registered gear with the IOC is like 36 months before the competition so that the racers have sufficient time to train to the format and the manufacturers can create enough units for national/international qualifying regattas that lead up to Olympic events. If that's the case, we're probably going to see the current state of the art "lock in" a bit and then see the development class go from that starting point in preps for Paris 2024 and LA 2028. I'd love to be proven wrong, but with approved events for the YoG, it's got to be on the minds of the major brands that their release calendar should overlap with the relatively large and ultimately extremely loyal international racing community to cater towards their format needs.

YoG has nothing to do with the release schedule of the racing kites as YoG is on LEI kites. So if anything that would affect the release schedule of the Edge etc.

The release schedule for the racing kites and foils is set already. Registration deadline was in May 2017, with kites being able to be used in Formula Kite events as of the 12. June.

Nope, R1V4 is out now :coffee:

https://ozonekites.com/images/uploads/p ... 4-Info.pdf

The new Speed System is new, lightweight and adjustable with a self-locking Splice Trim System.

Question 1:
Do you need to adjust A-Main? If A-Bridles shrink don't/wouldn't you still be able to tune with only B,C,Z tuning?

Question 2:
Does the B-Pulley line need to be that short? When I used a (very) long throw bar on with an old Chrono kite (I had used on other brands of large foil kites) I found the pulley line end/splice jammed the pulley sheave. Probably not an issue with a new kite and new bar. Maybe an issue for old kites with tuning adjustments and/or with long throw or long trim bars.

Question 3:
In 1999 arc foil kites used trailing edge center ripstop sleeve deflate opening with velcro closure. After using zippers for years Flysurfer eventually went back to this older lighter, simpler, no corrosion, same old style no zipper solution. Why not Ozone in 2020?

This must be the most expensive kite ever produced, a quiver would be a silly amount of money.

Yeah, looks like $10k-$11k US for a typical 3 kite quiver of R1V4. Used race gear is a deal though!

Lightly used R1v3s are half price now (~$1500).

VMGs are even cheaper (~$1000).

Hard to buy a $4000 kite knowing it will be worth $1500 next year :-?

Did you compared to VMG v1 or the new VMG v2?

I think the VMG 2,out now is even more expensive, and heaps of used race foils now on the market. Would be interesting to know which of these are suitable as a freeride option now that they can be had for a very reasonable price.
