Can anyone tell me which is the more powerfull kite specifically between the flysurfer speed 5 18m and the sonic 2 18m. i have the 18m speed 5 but was wondering if to trade it up for the sonic 2 18m to ride on those 6 to 8knts days. i had a sonic 1 and rembrr they had a small power advantage compared to the speed series. With a big board and The 18m speed i can go in 8knts+ but i have limited time to kite and hate to sit on the beach on nice sunny 6 to 8knt day waiting for things to pick up. thnks in advance

If its an option, learn to foil....tons of fun sub 10 knots and you can probably get rid of the really big kites.

Sorry cannot answer directly on your models. I had Speed4 Lotus 15m2 and tested it against Sonic1 15m2. Sonic1 had better lowend because it was more dynamic so I swapped because it was unbelievable that my mass could kite on twintip(door) without any whitecaps. Now I am on waiting queue which is
for Sonic2 15m2 which is
.
On Speed5vsSonic2 I would be only quessing. My sales rep recommended me Sonic2 as I had the same questions about general usability/stability/performance. On low winds you need the performance from the kite and Sonic2 delivers more with good stability.
Foilboarding = ploughing/plowing
(yes I've a foilboard), with TT & Sonic you can do slides/jumps in fairly low winds. I prefer that.

This is a good question!
I also wonder...but more on the lift hang time part.
Is it such a difference?

The 18m sonic 2 is amazing. Stays in the air in no wind. Has lots of power. Can't compare to 18m speed5 though.
My only experience with speed5 was 1 session on the 12m back to back with my sonic1 11m. The speed5 was more stable, but the lift and hang time was a bit less than than sonic 1. It felt to me like the speed 5 was 90% of the sonic performance but much more user friendly.
Now ive found Sonic 2 has even better performance (racing speed) than sonic 1 but with the ease of use of the speed 5. For jumping height and hangtime I didn't do a back to back comparison, but they seem similar. The sonic 2 is much less likely to collapse or fall out of the sky if the jump goes wrong though.
I can't comment on twintip low end

Everyone measures wind differently, so hard to put a number on it. One person's 5 knots is another person's 7, and 5 - 7 kts is a world of difference.
It's as good as it gets for low end I'd say

I thought the S1 18 had more accessible low end and jumped higher easier (TT only), but the S2 18 is excellent on a foil--riding at the kite isn't a disaster. I found it harder going free ride on a TT...but there was months between the two kites for me, so my memory may be off.

S1 was lower aspect than the S2, but with an 18m I'm not sure that's noticeable.

So wht low end are people getting on the sonic 2 18m and a big board . i measured 8knts with the 18m speed 5 as the low end. come on somebody must have this kite and used it in winds after all its a low wind kite. And bye the way here is a question for Mr Armin at flysurfer as i know he reads these threads sometimes. Why are there never any flysurfer demos in the usa. I know there is a distributor here but they dont seem to have any interest in promoting the kites out there to real kiters .
