Any reviews about Kitech's Fly 15m?

Postby abel » Mon Jul 10, 2017 9:57 pm

Somehow the initial enthusiasm about the Fly kites has dissipated.
I'm wondering if anybody has accumulated experience on this kites, especially in the 12/15 m2 size for light wind (6-10 knots).
How does the kite react to long lulls? Does it keep floating in the air considerably better than other foils or light wind kites?

Yes,

I own a 9m and 12m kitech fly4. I have used the 12m in 6+ knot range with the 12m, and the kite stays stable in the air in low winds. After flying the kite and going for a short foiling run, I decided to sell my 13.5 cloud kite which was my previous goto kite in very light winds. The kite is also agile for a foil kite, so I tend to move it around if I feel the winds becoming light. If the kite does drop, I can wait for a gust of wind, whereupon the kite will relaunch very easily. I can post some videos and more comments latter. There is less power compared to a race foil kite, but I find this kite much easier to manage. I have also ridden a friend's 15m kitech.

Thanks for the info.
Looking forward for the videos and comments, especially on the 15.
It would be interesting seeing a relaunch in light winds. There are so many 'fake' relaunches that were posted here and there, that I would like to see a real one done without touching the bottom with the feet 8)

I have a 15m2 and use it a lot. Its a user friendly foil kite relaunch is pretty good in LW even after long lulls.

I also relaunch it in deep water while foiling in really LW. I have no idea of its low end, Today one guy was struggling to stay upwind on a 18m2 with a twintip and I was overpowered as f.ck on a foilboard with my 15m2 :)

No idea when the new version of the 15m2 will be released... I guess a few months. 12m2 is already in production.

The 12 production version is the one after the FLY!4 ? (The Free RS?/FLY!5 ? -It doesn't show on Kitech's website)

Yes the Free RS it is. I had no chance to test it yet but looks promising. As soon as I get my dirty hands on it I will give you some feedback, hopefully next week if we have wind.

Did you have the chance to ride in light winds with the Free RS?
Any technical details?
