Flysurfer Profile Momentum Adjuster

Postby jakemoore » Sun Apr 01, 2018 5:26 am

Screenshot from a soul video.

What an elegant way to adjust the camber on a foil kite! Why not a tube kite? Too bad it has been kept a secret.

Interesting I wonder how many cells have them? Also for what purpose? I know adjusting the sewn camber will change the base
or depowered characteristics of the kite. I would guess these are to fix quality or age problems that are causing asymmetric flight or tip collapse. In which case they are probably located towards the tips. You can achieve this I think better by shortening the top or bottom skins( I posted about it somewhere :-) ), but these line adjustments would be far more practical/easy. Well done again Flysurfer :thumb:

They talked about what they're used for on their facebook stream. Something to do with how the foil camber adjusts when tension is taken out of the lines/bridles. They are through out the kite, come already engaged on the 21m on top cloth(i think), and they said it should only be done through a FS dealer.

I don 't know if it is elegant to distort airfoil locally that way, it will make some kind of pleat in the skins too. If there was a sewing error by a fraction of that it would be unacceptable.

But if something like that is needed and is in production it apparently works. However it would be good to hear clear explanation in english of this invention.

If it is used only through a dealer, it reeks of to fix problems with the kite, whether from use or from quality issues. Still a nice invention.

Wow first time from that video I have heard Flysurfer talk/admit about the loss of depower problem when the Pulley lines shrink.

From the video it is marketed as a way to change performance of the kite which is definitely possible given they are on every cell (I think). They can definitely be used to fix problems, which discussed or not would also be a obvious design goal. The video is quite good and gives are thorough demonstration of some technical details of the kite.
