was the single layer of 45 deg cloth symmetric on each side or wrapped in the same direction ?
its possible the fibers do not resist torsion equally in both directions.
if you're not sure, you may want to do the torsion test in both directions.
just a thought.

Great question...

The 45's were run in opposite directions on either side. Meaning on the port side fibers running from 10:30 to 4:30 and 1:30 to 7:30 for the starboard side .
I'm not exactly sure thats the best way to run them, or how the twisting effect on the wing loads from one tack to the other. In my head, when on starboard tack, the wing would want to twist to leward or away from the board direction, that's how i made the decision on the orientation.

now that i think about it. the orientation is the same not opposite...relative to what tack you're on.

regardless of which direction you twist:
it sounds like the fibers on one side will be in compression and fibers on the other side will be tension.

perhaps not ideal, but at least the behavior should be symmetric.

folks smarter than me have always suggested you balance the laminate with equal amounts of + and - 45 deg fibers.
technically, i think you have done that , but a bit hard to visualize.
