Cores have a big impact on structure for sure. This board has surfboard blank PU foam.
I've fit 2 layers of 1,2 mm veneer for the deck. My plan is to put one layer of plain weave CF 200g under the wood, while epoxy gluing down the wood with vacuum bag. Then I'll clean it up and put 2 more 7oz glass over the wood wrapping the rails.
My thinking is to not touch the bottom because it's not damaged and it's nicely sanded. Or do you think I should put down a layer of carbon plain weave and glass? Much more work to re finish it...

In the bag. CF 200g plain weave, + 4oz glass under 2 layers 1,2 mm abachi veneer. Just veneers weigh 500g
Whole thing will be 3,5 kg when I'm done I bet.

Love your builds man !
Why two layers veneer ? And 4oz fabric glass is just adding weight , it won't get to be loaded as the carbon will load up before the glass
Surely 1 layer 200g on the bias is enough ? That's what I do with a 100mm wide 300gsm carbon uni running down the length
Never had a board fail yet
It looks like the veneers are wrapping the rails ?

I put the 4oz glass on as the carbon was only partially coverage of deck. Might be overkill.
I was worried only 1 layer of veneer would fail as the deck had already failed and I needed a lamination there.
Actually I'm wondering if carbon does any good at all on the deck, perhaps it should all be on the bottom in tension when board is crashing to water.
Load on board from top while riding must be much less.
Veneer is not on rails, that's masking tape protection on rail.
I'm going to clean up the veneer edge at rail, and put only a 7 oz over the wood. And do the finish work.
Then I'm going to put the board on blocks. One block at the middle of the mast plate mount and one block about 30cm back from nose. Put the laser on it, Then load it up.
I think it needs to take my 80 kg at least and with some mild jumping up and down.

Going back to the drawing board, I'm going to design a blank that is a bit thicker, less concave on deck.
Then I'll laminate bottom with wide, 200mm Uni D cf 250g strip x 2, full length, plus 3 layers 6 oz glass.
Deck I will put down same cf as bottom, 4oz glass, 1 layer veneer and 2 x7oz glass.
I'll have HD foam insert where plate goes or I might use fin boxes.

Sounds pretty tough. Your double veneer deck may be overkill, but won't hurt.
The deck carbon will be in tension when the board in front of your mast is working as a cantilever beam supporting your front foot pressure (or all weight if/when you put both feet in front of mast).
I am glad I added uni CF (2 x 180gsm, 25mm wide) to my paipo deck when converting for foiling. Board feels stiffer, better overall, compared to when it had only bottom CF strips.
Look forward to seeing the results!

Cleaned it up and sealing the wood prior to putting on a last layer of glass on deck and around the rails. Weighs 3900g now. I think it's pretty indestructible now.

Quick lamination with an orange tint.
