Ocean Rodeo Bronco

Hey,

just picked up my first kite 6 m Ocean Rodeo bronco, bought it used with with bar and lines, 250 buck, anyone else from toronto area?

Please don't judge your opinion of Ocean Rodeo based solely on that kite. The Bronco is a very old kite in comparison to the sport of kiteboarding. Perhaps an Ocean Rodeo Rise would have been a better option. Cheers,

Yeah, that is old tech and of the generation that can easily whoop yo ass. 6m is a high wind size, but I suppose you could safely use it in moderate breeze as a trainer and maybe to get the idea on snow, but its not big enough to do any beginner riding on water. Kinda hard to relaunch unless you add a 5th line. Good luck, be careful.

yeah there is a 5th line, and I dont plan to ride on water yet not till next summer, just something to start out with it, i will probably get something new by snowfall for snowkiting

Should be fine for that. Be careful and have fun. Use it to learn relaunching, over and over. Pulling in on the 5th line will help you get it partially onto its back and then you can get one wingtip to catch a bit of wind. Then your going to be walking toward the side to get it all to happen. The basic mechanics are going to be the same as a newer kite just no need for the 5th line and they pop up a lot easier.

Hey big_d,
Sounds like you are new to the sport. So welcome to your new addiction. I hope your friends don't mind you flaking out on plans everytime it's windy now. It's ok though cause you will have a great crew of new friends who all kite and understand the addiction.
I apologize in advance if you have already but I was not sure from reading your thread.
Please take some lessons and do not teach yourself. A 3 hour lesson from a good kite school will save you 2-3 months of self teaching and also ensure that you cover the necessary safety steps.

A friend of mine put it well and compared learning to kite to learning to scuba dive.

Next summer, if you have the chance, you shuld come check out Nitinaht Lake, on Vancouver Island.
