US Kitefreeze Update

Postby Windancer » Fri Jan 14, 2005 6:34 am

Unfortunately we've had to reschedule the Kitefreeze. The new days are Febuary 4,5,and 6. As the longest running snowkite event in the country this event just gets better and better. Last year's event went off.

Here's the plan for the event.

Friday is a freeride on the inner city lake, Calhoun. The goal here is to make a presence and put on a show as well as give demos and lessons. It about growing the sport. Registered athletes will get points for attending and additional points for supporting the sponsors by giving demos. For safety reasons we are not judging trick complexity on Friday, just attendance and support. One of our goals is to get some media attention to promote the weekend's activities.

Saturday and Sunday are on Minnetonka, Kite Island. The program is a bit different from previous years. Instead of successive heats, we'll have a long judged freeride. This is the main competition. All athletes ride their best and go for the gold. Then all the riders vote for the best 5 riders in each of the categories (men, women, junior). The judging is tallied up (including scores from Friday) and these top riders then move into a final heat. Their scores are erased, and for a 15minute heat they go neck and neck with the other riders in their category. After which the remaining riders judge them once again, which is tallied for the final score. These final heats should be exciting. Since the weather is unpredictable beast, the length of the freeride and the timing of the finals, will be determined when we have a better idea about the forecast for the weekend.

We'll have a hot lunch for all.

The ice is so thick we hope to have parking on the ice, as long as we maintain restrictions for proximity to eachother.

There will be facilities on the ice.

Event Headquarters with be the new Slingshot Greenhouse at Kite Island.

The Kitefreeze has always been an event for everyone. We hope that the new program will encourage all riders to come out and play. Registration, as always, is free.

Come out and ride next to Pro Riders such as: Alex Peterson, Mark Doyle, Aaron Sales, Motz, Jeff Roberts, Joe Levins, and more.

Mark Feb 4, 5, 6th on your calanders. This should be great event, sick competition, great stoke and a lot of great riding.

THE USKITEFREEZE WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM:
SCUBA CENTER KITING AND WINDSURFING
BOARDSPORTS USA
TOM LOWE
SLINGSHOT KITEBOARDING

BE SURE RECOGNIZE THEIR SUPPORT OF THIS SPORT AND OUR COMMUNITY.

Ask not what your sport can do for you, but what you can do for your sport.
